As a Prenatal Education Registered Nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital, you will lead expectant parents through the transformative journey of childbirth using your clinical expertise in a series of interactive, smallgroup settings. Youll cover essential topics such as parenting, pregnancy, the labour process, vaginal and cesarean birth, comfort measures and pain management, the postpartum period, newborn care and safety, breast/ chest feeding and infant feeding. This role allows you to expand your teaching prowess in both virtual and inperson formats, ensuring parents are wellprepared, confident, and supported as they embark on the journey of parenthood. About The Prenatal Education Program The Prenatal Education Program at Mount Sinai Hospital is dedicated to empowering expecting parents as they navigate the transformative journey of parenthood. Facilitated by healthcare professionals such as Registered Nurses, Physiotherapists, and Anesthesiologists, our classes are designed to foster engagement, interaction, and peer support. Each month, our program welcomes roughly 500 attendees, with typical class sizes of 2025 participants. While many courses are exclusive to Mount Sinai patients, we also extend some offerings to the broader community, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity. We regularly enhance our curriculum based on feedback and the newest research to deliver toptier education. As a prominent resource in prenatal care, our program is listed in the provincial directory, solidifying our position as a leading provider in the field. In This Role You Will Deliver classes to families and their support persons, facilitating learning using interactive methods and adult learning techniques Attend prenatal educator team meetings and collaborate with the team on development and program evaluation activities Support the ongoing learning of colleagues and various health professional students who may be having clinical placements in the program Participate in professional development activities Ensure audio visual and virtual equipment is connected and in working order Set up inperson or virtual classroom Deliver standardized educational materials in sequence approved by the team Evaluate student learning to confirm knowledge transfer Complete attendance list and follow up with absent students when necessary Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required Job Requirements Mandatory Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses' of Ontario (CNO) Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelors degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification ASPO Lamaze or ICEA Childbirth Educator Certificate (or educational equivalent) or willingness to achieve same within a year 35 years recent clinical experience in Perinatal nursing Preferred A baccalaureate degree from a CNO-approved nursing program International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), or progress toward this, is a definite asset 2 years recent experience in breastfeeding support Labour and Delivery experience is an asset Skills and Knowledge Sound knowledge and commitment to family centred care Demonstrated communication, adult education and group facilitation skills Experience facilitating group learning Experience developing education programs, learning materials, and evaluation processes a definite asset Demonstrated knowledge of patient and family centred care and customer service principles Excellent organization and time management skills Excellent decision making, problem recognition/solving skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills Commitment to collaborative practice Ability to work effectively and independently under stressful conditions Ability to utilize information technology Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history If this sounds like you and you feel ready to build your nursing career within prenatal education, apply now and let us know why youd be a great addition to our team. #J-18808-Ljbffr
