The John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse is located off campus in Richmond, BC. WAGE RANGE: This position ranges between $21/hour - $22.50/hour. ROLE SUMMARY The John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse requires Event Attendants to assist corporate and wedding clients with medium to large events. The role will provide front line services to rental groups through the administration of event management and customer service. As a point of contact to UBC Athletics and Recreations off-campus facility the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse, it is important the applicant assists our patrons in a knowledgeable and professional manner. The ideal candidate working in this role is required to provide first-class customer service and professionalism while assisting facility patrons with inquiries regarding event rentals, event set up and take down, and any other external event protocols. It is essential that the successful candidate is professional, welcoming, and provides clear and concise directions when exhibiting knowledge in both way-finding and event protocols. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES The John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse requires the Event Attendants to assist corporate and wedding clients with medium to large events. Candidates for this role must be available evenings and weekends including holidays. Job responsibilities include: overseeing the safety of both guests and the facility, opening and closing the building, setting up and taking down all the tables and chairs, assisting clients with audio-visual (AV) needs, providing excellent customer service, performing facility maintenance as needed, ensuring that the building is respected and that clients and their guests are adhering to the rules and guidelines. Must be available evenings and weekends including holidays. Providing exceptional customer service support to building users and guests Answering customer and vendor inquiries during the event Assisting clients with AV and other needs Completing day of set-up, take-down, organization and preparation for all major events happening at the UBC Boathouse Lifting or moving heavy objects or equipment as set up requires-equipment includes tables, chairs and other event and/or sporting equipment based on the floorplans provided Overseeing the safety of both guests and the facility Opening and closing the building Equipment counting and checking for accuracy and inventory control Minor maintenance and cleaning tasks as necessary Uphold and enforce facility policies and procedures Ensuring that the building is respected and that clients are adhering to the rules and guidelines Attending all mandatory staff meetings Performing other duties as necessary SUPERVISION RECEIVED This position will report directly to the Events & Bookings Coordinators. In the role, the staff will work both independently and in a team environment, depending on the task at hand. The staff has a defined a set of policies and procedures and is expected to defer to the supervisors above when any judgment or decision making outside these parameters is required. The staff maintains regular contact with the supervisor through email, phone, and in-person interactions. QUALIFICATIONS Staff working in this position should be willing to give great customer service and be comfortable with initiating conversations with the public. Those who are independent, mature, and self-motivated will find this position would come naturally to them. Knowledge of event management procedures is an asset. Someone who is passionate about weddings, events and customer service would be an ideal candidate for this position.
