Position :Vice President, Public Policy and Advocacy Reports to :Senior Vice President, Public Policy and Advocacy Position Description Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Vice President, Public Policy and Advocacy, will be responsible for assisting in the development and management of Government relations and public policy strategies. Duties and Responsibilities Direct, manage and support public policy advocacy and issue management. These issues can involve federal, provincial and municipal governments. Develop positive relationships with government officials and industry stakeholders. Represent CFIG as appropriate in meetings with political and department staff, other industry stakeholders, parliamentary hearings and to media. Craft briefing papers, policy submissions and correspondence on key public policy issues. Provide advice and advocacy strategies to Senior VP of Public Policy and the CFIG Board of Directors.Also keep other CFIG team members apprised of issues that are directly or indirectly related to other CFIG activities. Be able to package and present a variety of sometimes complex issues, both verbally and in writing, that is concise, clear and impactful. Develop collaborative relationships with other industry association counterparts. Work collaboratively and in consultation with CFIG membership in developing and explaining policies and positions related to public policy. Skills and experience Sound knowledge of government and the legislative and regulatory processes at either the federal or provincial level, with a minimum of 5 years experience in government. University degree or a suitable combination of education and experience. Excellent written and presentation skills. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Ability to travel as deemed necessary by the Senior VP of Public Policy and Advocacy. Knowledge of or experience in the Canadian agri-food industry, particularly retail, would be considered an asset. Bilingualism would also be considered an asset.
