Applications are invited for the position of Associate Superintendent, the portfolio will include: Student Attendance, Literacy, Numeracy, and School Success. Duties will commence August 3, 2026 or as mutually agreed. THE DIVISION The Northland School Division (NSD) is a unique Alberta school jurisdiction that largely serves First Nations and Mtis students in 18 smaller rural schools, including one online school. The schools are located in Anzac, Calling Lake, Janvier, Susa Creek, Chipewyan Lake, Conklin, Wabasca/Desmarais, and the Metis Settlements of East Prairie, Elizabeth, Fishing Lake, Gift Lake, Grouard, and Paddle Prairie. The Superintendent team serves approximately 1,600 students and employs 140 certificated staff and 300 non-certificated support staff. The Board of Trustees is elected from nine different wards. The Board is strongly committed to Truth and Reconciliation and to providing personalized land- based educational learning opportunities for all students. THE REGION The Division encompasses most of the northern third of the province and borders both British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The region is rich in natural resources; oil and gas, and forestry are among the main contributors to the economic base. As for things to do, youll find no shortage of activities right outside your door. Theres untouched wilderness to explore, lakes and rivers to fish, and a rich historical past to discover. In the summer, youll have endless hours of sunlight to play in, while the winter months bring out dazzling displays such as the magnificent northern lights. THE CANDIDATE The successful candidate will be a student-focused, ethical, collaborative, and relational professional committed to providing relevant, innovative, high-quality student programming in a rural and Indigenous context. The successful candidate will also have a strong commitment to public education and to the Division's mission, vision, and principles, including the Education Plan. A highly visible, technologically astute individual, the successful candidate will be a person of courage and conviction, knowledgeable and supportive of Cree, Dene and Mtis cultures, have an ability to work synergistically with others, be committed to strong, effective community engagement, and possess the ability to contribute to a positive organizational culture and an exceptional leadership team. The role includes supporting and supervising multiple schools while working collaboratively with school leadership teams to analyze data and contextual factors that influence student learning. Responsibilities also include monitoring student attendance and implementing strategies to improve engagement and regular participation. The position plays an important role in promoting high school completion and overall student success through targeted supports and programming, including the implementation of effective literacy and numeracy initiatives. In addition, the role contributes to broader system leadership by supporting informed decision-making and aligning school practices with divisional priorities to improve outcomes for all students. The successful candidate must hold or qualify for Alberta teaching certification and a Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard certificate, and hold or be working towards a Master's degree.
