Reports To: Executive Director / Board Treasurer Status: Full-Time, 30 hours/week Compensation: $60,000$65,000 annually plus health and dental benefits and RRSP matching Position Summary The Financial Manager is responsible for ensuring the overall financial health, fiscal accountability, and statutory compliance of the organization. This role oversees financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, payroll coordination, and grant reporting. Working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and external bookkeeping and accounting partners, the Financial Manager ensures transparency, strong financial stewardship, and responsible management of organizational resources in support of the organizations mission. Key Responsibilities Manage all accounting functions including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial documentation. Oversee year-end closing processes, including required journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis. Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors. Ensure proper implementation of accounting principles and maintain clear tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds. Contribute financial data and analysis for the organizations annual report. 2. Budgeting, Planning & Forecasting Lead the annual organizational budgeting process in collaboration with the Executive Director and program managers. Monitor budget versus actual results and investigate significant variances. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making. 3. Compliance & Audit Act as the primary liaison for the annual accountant audit, preparing required schedules and documentation. Ensure compliance with all municipal, provincial, and federal financial regulations and reporting requirements. Manage tax filings and ensure compliance with charitable status regulations. Develop financial budgets for grant applications, funding proposals, and service contracts. Manage financial reporting for funded programs, ensuring timely and accurate submissions to funders including government and private foundations. Ensure expenditures align with donor and funder restrictions and contractual agreements. Prepare and issue charitable tax receipts for donors. Provide strategic financial guidance to the Executive Director and Board of Directors regarding resource allocation, financial planning, and organizational sustainability. Develop and monitor key financial performance indicators relevant to non-profit operations. Support the development of financial policies and procedures that strengthen accountability and operational efficiency. Required Qualifications & Experience Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. CPA, CGA, CMA designation, or equivalent professional accounting certification is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience may be considered. Experience Minimum of 35 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within the non-profit sector. Experience working with grant-funded programs and charitable organizations is considered an asset. Preference will be given to applicants with relevant lived experience. Technical & Professional Skills Expert proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial data analysis. Strong knowledge of non-profit financial management standards, reporting requirements, and key performance indicators. Communication Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to clearly present and explain complex financial information to non-financial staff, leadership, and the Board of Directors.
