What You Will Do Lead and perform architectural design for repair, renovation, and rehabilitation of transit structures and facilities, including preparing drawings and specifications. Provide architectural expertise across projects, including detailed design, specifications, cost estimating, and scheduling. Ensure all designs comply with current codes, standards, and the TTC Design Manual. Produce and revise drawings using MicroStation and other CADD software; stamp/sign drawings as required. Review and approve shop drawings, tender documents, building permit packages, and constructionready specifications. Conduct general reviews and submit site review reports in accordance with OBC/OAA requirements. Supervise and check the work of Architectural Technologists/Designers for accuracy, completeness, constructability, maintainability, and compliance with standards. Review and evaluate architectural designs and proposals from external consultants and other TTC design groups. Participate in construction and postconstruction activities, including site inspections, investigations, studies, and resolving design or construction issues. Prepare Site Instructions, Change Orders, and final asbuilt drawings for record retention. Take responsibility for the technical accuracy and architectural seal of all assigned documents and drawings. Support the Assistant Manager by reporting project status, addressing issues, and acting in their absence. Participate in design meetings, committees, and discussions with governmental authorities to secure design approvals. Assign, monitor, and review design work within the OneTime Work Order Design section. Stay current with architectural design techniques, technologies, and industry standards; contribute to updates of TTC design standards. These abilities would normally be acquired by obtaining a university degree in architecture, or the equivalent as determined by the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), combined with considerable experience working in progressively responsible positions as a registered Architect. Membership in good standing with the Ontario Association of Architects (with eligibility for a professional seal) is mandatory; Must possess a valid class G drivers licence. Must be knowledgeable of design, specifications, construction and contracting techniques; Requires in-depth knowledge of the Ontario Building Code combined with knowledge of provincial and municipal planning and zoning requirements and processes; Must have a strong familiarity with national and provincial construction related standards, codes and statutes as they relate to the transit facilities and related systems; Must possess sound judgment, excellent architectural design skills, highly developed analytical, problem solving, verbal communication and technical report writing skills; Must have a strong working knowledge of CADD and ability in drafting with MicroStation and other CADD software as well as knowledge of computers and computerized software relevant to the work e.g. current versions of MicroStation, Excel, Word, Sketchup; Required to attain (and maintain) Subway/SRT Rule Book Certification; Required to attain (and maintain) any other safety training as mandated by the Department; Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
