IT / Communications Engineer (ICAT) Building Systems (Hybrid) Confidential Client | Toronto / GTA (Hybrid) The Opportunity Our client, a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking an IT / Communications Engineer (ICAT) to join their Building Systems team in Toronto. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of integrated IT and communications systems for complex new construction and renovation projects across institutional, commercial, and mixed-use buildings. Working within a collaborative consulting environment, the IT / Communications Engineer will support projects from concept through construction, delivering resilient, scalable, and future-ready building communications solutions while benefiting from a flexible hybrid work model. Key Responsibilities Conduct site surveys and existing condition assessments for IT and communications systems Lead the conceptual and detailed design of IT/Communications systems for building projects Prepare technology evaluations, system recommendations, and equipment selection reports Develop tender drawings, layouts, and technical specifications using AutoCAD and Revit Coordinate IT/Communications designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines Support project delivery through contractor coordination, client engagement, and technical guidance Participate in construction administration activities including RFIs, submittal reviews, and site meetings Collaborate closely with internal multidisciplinary teams and external consultants Engage with clients to understand project objectives and provide technical solutions Stay current with emerging IT, communications, and smart building technologies Mentor junior team members and support internal knowledge-sharing initiatives Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience) Proven experience designing IT networks, communications cabling systems, and IT infrastructure within building environments Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for design and construction documentation Working knowledge of applicable industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, IEEE) Experience conducting site assessments and surveys for IT/Communications systems Strong understanding of structured cabling, wireless systems, LAN/WAN networks, and data center infrastructure Familiarity with consulting engineering workflows and multidisciplinary coordination Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to prepare technical reports Preferred / Asset Qualifications RCDD certification or willingness to pursue certification Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility Exposure to smart building technologies, IoT systems, AV systems, or building automation Experience supporting construction administration activities Interest in sustainable and energy-efficient building design Experience mentoring junior staff or supporting technical development Why This Role Work on technically complex and innovative building systems projects Exposure to integrated IT, communications, and smart building technologies Collaborative, multidisciplinary consulting environment Flexible hybrid work model supporting work-life balance Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits Strong professional development and long-term career growth opportunities Compensation Transparency The expected compensation range for this role is $85,000 $110,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
