The Contaminated Sites Specialist Environmental Scientist, Geoscientist or Engineer in the Brownfield Assessment and Development Service Group is responsible for strengthening and expanding MEMS services with a focus on technical excellence, project execution, and delivery. The role includes application of technical expertise in the provision of contaminated sites assessment and risk assessment in Ontario, and other Canadian jurisdiction as experience fits. The primary responsibility of this role is the successful completion of, and client satisfaction with, projects undertaken in alignment with MEMS overall corporate strategy and its mission, values, goals, and objectives. This is an advanced role which requires high quality project management and technical execution with an emphasis on building longterm client relationships that create repeat business and opportunities to expand services, as well as supporting the technical and career growth of junior and intermediate employees within the service group. Key Responsibilities Technical Engagement and Growth Undertake or provide technical directions and mentoring for contaminated site assessment and risk projects for a range of complex sites. Development of work scopes and proposals. File reviews. Compilation and review of complex data sets. Development and conceptual site models to assist in understanding and communicating key site issues. Data interpretation and development of sitespecific guidelines. Development of creative solutions to manage challenging contaminated sites and develop riskbased recommendations. Take a leading role in contaminated sites risk assessment projects for complex sites. Participate with a team of technical experts to develop and apply numerical groundwater fate and transport modelling techniques to determine solutions for contaminated sites, environmental and water resources challenges. Participating in expanding MEMS technical and technology capabilities as needed to align our technical capabilities with the plans established to position the service group for growth. Promote the company externally in regard to technical advancements through application in project deliverables and communication with clients. Provide technical support as needed to other MEMS service groups and undertake other duties as required. Portfolio & Client Management Contributing, implementing, and maintaining client business growth plans, creating the conditions that result in longterm repeat business. Managing diverse clients and portfolio of projects. Developing and maintaining direct contact with clients and stakeholders. Communicating client intel to management/executive and work to develop appropriate responses. Compliance with MEMS system including project financial management and project safety. Working with the Business Development team by facilitating opportunities for network, meeting with potential clients and providing client intelligence and technical resources to support business development activities. Mentorship and Training Identify competency gaps within the service group and assist in the coordination of required training. Contribute to the development and evolution of mentorship and competency training programs. Collaborate internally with Executive, Employee Resources, and Service Group Directors to develop and evolve effective service group teams. Provide direct mentorship of staff. Other duties as required. What You Bring A minimum of six (6) years of directly related experience in executing and managing site assessments and reclamation. Directly applicable postsecondary education / Bachelors degree is required; Masters degree is preferred. Membership in a relevant professional organization such as APGO or PEO is required. Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include preaccess drug, alcohol and fitness testing, and possess a valid Class 5 drivers license. Other Knowledge And Skills Knowledge and experience with current provincial and federal legislation and familiarity with the environmental site assessment process. Understanding of the Ontario regulatory guidance documents such as O.Reg 153/04 and Risk Assessment guidance documents. Other Knowledge And Skills Application of riskbased solutions to contaminated sites. Groundwater numerical fate and transport modelling experience considered a strong asset. Strong computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite. Be able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary setting. Ability to work either independently or as a part of a team interacting with other team members and contractors. Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Selfmotivated with a strong work ethic; and Excellent safety attitude. Working Conditions Flexible office and workfromhome environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time, as well as some field work. Prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and computer screens. Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals. Sometimes requires long hours of work. Occasional interruptions outside work hours and travel to other locations are required. Ability to work varying shifts, including the occasional evening and night; and Required to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, kneel down, crawl, reach and grasp, push and pull objects, lift and/or move up to 30 kg, sometimes over the shoulders, repetitive bending and lifting of items, along with repetitive arm movements.
