About The Role The Safety Specialist supports the development and implementation of safetyrelated programs and processes meant to prevent injuries, fires, or other workplace accidents. The Specialist works to ensure the availability, readiness, and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, protective clothing, devices, and first aid supplies. Essential Functions Coordinate daily activities with project management and site supervision Perform OFA duties as required for WPE at the project Treat injured workers, record injured worker treatment on appropriate forms, assist in determining if workers require medical intervention or construction care Coordinate with WPE head office H&S department relating to WPE injury management, RTW, and ongoing claims with WCB Coordinate with H&S Administrator relating to injuries and claims Maintain site specific emergency response plan, safety board, JHAs, SWPs, SIs, SDS and related H&S documentation Report weekly statistics to WPE H&S and project management Maintain and inspect inventory related to fall protection equipment, confined space equipment, respiratory protective equipment, PPE, fire extinguishers and asset safety. Update project management and supervision Perform daily site walks, FLRA reviews, and site inspections and record in WPE/MYR software Complete initial incident reports and investigation reports Attend weekly safety talks Ensure tagout system is in place and being followed for defective tools and equipment. Notify project management and supervision of defects Identify H&S deficiencies and implement and assign proper corrective actions. In coordination with project management and supervision Coach and mentor site personnel with regard to correcting unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviour and unsafe work practices Use stop work authority as required Coordinate with WPE H&S & Operations teams to schedule or facilitate required employee trainings Training Programs New Hire Orientation PostIncident Training as part of corrective action Participate in sitespecific safety planning Ensure regular drills are conducted and recorded Ensure records of training are captured and retained for WPE workers Ensure competency program is being followed and records of competency are being maintained for WPE workers Other duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Prior major project experience highly preferred Prior transit project experience is a plus Preferred Education Certificate or diploma in OHS, or combination of relevant experience and education considered in lieu of degree Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Ability to travel into the field, job sites Ability to tolerate inclement weather (hot, cold, wet, snow, etc.) Proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Suite software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook as well as Adobe and Photoshop Excellent verbal and written communication skills Knowledge and understanding of industry related safety regulations preferred Compensation & Benefits Salary $85,000-$100,000 CAD / year (commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.)
