Position Summary The Ship Maintenance Lead oversees the planning, execution and closeout activities for each vessel Short Work Period or Docking Work Period. Responsible for the integrated schedule and worksite during structured work periods, the Ship Maintenance Lead as Work Package Manager manages and coordinates internal and external teams through all phases of the work period. The Ship Maintenance Lead directs and monitors all activities to completion while preparing and delivering regular work period reports relating to schedule progress, cost and risks. The Ship Maintenance Lead is responsible to ensure all work executed in the Work Period follows all worksite safety plans and procedures. The Ship Maintenance Lead is responsible to the Ship Maintenance Team Manager. Special Position Requirements Schedule: 40 hours per week Physical Environment: Office or onboard Naval ships alongside in harbor, or at sea; must meet federal government requirements to access Canadian government facilities, including naval dockyards. Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel required, including access to government facilities and assets, including naval vessels. Customer Location Based or Site Visits: Access to government facilities and assets, including naval vessels. Regulatory Compliance Requirements Access to Trade Controlled Items Access to Controlled Goods Security Clearance COVID-19 Vaccine Specific Need Require access and work in DND facilities and comply with Federal facility health regulations. Direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, ITAR or EAR. Positive Controlled Goods assessment required; personnel will have direct access to technology under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program. Maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level. Key Areas of Responsibility Lead the work period project planning activities of preparing, organizing and validating to ensure successful transition from project planning through to project launch. Acts as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders on maintenance execution. Supervises the Thales personnel and subcontractors to achieve agreed outcomes within delegated authorities. Coordinates required activities prior to maintenance execution, including subcontractor kick-off meetings and purchase orders. Provides direction, coaching, support and delegation to project team members. Oversees all maintenance execution activities for designated periods to ensure material readiness. Prepares regular reports as required by the contract. Provides whole ship project management support to the Halifax Waterfront Manager. Reports progress daily, weekly and at conclusion of maintenance activities. Manages maintenance and ad-hoc tasking during designated periods within scheduled time frames. Controls investigation and rectification of operational defects within scheduled time frames. Reports status of operational defects within the project scope. Assesses warranty implications and financial claims. Reviews maintenance systems and support documentation for applicability. Verifies and certifies financial claims for payments to subcontractors. Coordinates recording of planned and corrective maintenance data in THALES systems. Collaborates on acceptance of objective quality evidence for performance and invoicing. Ensures issues are resolved at lowest level; escalates as needed for safety and availability concerns. Provides technical assistance or advice to Ships Staff and RCN personnel. Attends departmental meetings to consolidate continuous improvement. Applies positive non-KPI contributions toward continuous improvement. Updates procedures and templates as required. Ensures activities follow AJISS procedures. Delivers regular lesson-learned and internal wash-up meetings to the team. Undertakes other duties as assigned. Travels to manage on-site technical support during short work periods. People Management Provides oversight and direction to a team within the Service Delivery department. Coaches, mentors and develops staff, including onboarding. Leads employees to meet expectations for productivity, quality, continuous improvement, and goal accomplishment. Fosters teamwork and unity among department members. Health, Safety & Environment Ensures compliance with HS&E legislative requirements, policies, procedures and framework. Promotes Thaless HS&E programs by demonstrating leadership. Communicates with all staff via meetings, written communications and one-on-one interaction. Basic Qualifications 5+ years of experience managing projects and teams in Naval environments. Technical/Specialized Knowledge Minimum 3-year technical program diploma or equivalent technologist certification or QL-6B / RQ-PO1 military technical training. Experience supervising teams undertaking maintenance activities. Strong computer literacy, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience interfacing between stakeholders within a project. Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities. Language English Preferred Qualifications Experience in or leading In-Service Support Projects. Experience in a defence environment with active defence force personnel. Experience in procurement, project management or warehouse environments. Experience with the Defense Resource Management Information System (DRMIS) or comparable system. Accreditation as a Certified Practicing Project Manager or equivalent. Physical Demands Predominantly onsite in the Naval Dockyard and onboard Naval Vessels, with time also spent in office or at home. Requires inspections including confined space entry, bending, twisting and tasks at heights. Must meet federal government access requirements to Canadian facilities.
