Job Details Union: ONA New or Replacement: Replacement Site: Toronto General Hospital Department: POCU/PACU Reports to: Nurse Manager Wage Range: $40.24 - $57.68 per hour (start rate is nonnegotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements) Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week Status: Temporary FullTime (12 Month Contract) Closing Date: March 26, 2026 Position Summary As a member of the multidisciplinary Team, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession. Following surgery, patients are transferred to the Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU) for immediate postoperative care and remain there until they are ready to be transferred to the next stage of their recovery. PACU is a critical care environment, with 20 physical beds and the capability for full invasive monitoring and ventilation. Several types of anesthesia are provided to our patient population including local anesthesia with sedation to more complex regional and general anesthesia. The PACU facilitates postoperative recovery for approximately 7,500 patients per year. The majority (90%) are high acuity inpatients undergoing high risk surgery while the other 10% are patients undergoing same day surgical procedures, or people that are booked for procedures such as ECT or Cardioversion/Defibrillator testing. Patients who have had interventional radiology procedures, trans esophageal echocardiograms (TEE) or gastroscopies are also cared for here. The PACUs dynamic interprofessional team works collaboratively to provide exemplary patientcentered care to our patients and works diligently to create a cohesive team environment. Qualifications Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification Current PACU experience in a tertiary care teaching institution preferred Completion of a recognized Critical Care Certificate program required Minimum two (2) years current Medical/Surgical experience Minimum two (2) years Critical Care experience preferred Evidence of collaborative practice Strong interpersonal and communication skills Excellent organizational and time management skills Strong decision making and problem solving skills Evidence of continuing education preferred BScN preferred ACLS preferred Why join UHN?
