Lead Camp Counsellor Assistant (2 positions) Reports to: Program and Camp Coordinator Location: 7150 Montrose Road, Niagara Falls ON L2H 3N3 Hours: 35-40 hours/week Hourly Wage: $20/hour Duration: (June 22, 2026 August 21, 2026) Position Overview Reporting to the Program and Camp Coordinator, the Lead Camp Counsellor Assistant plays a key role in supporting the daytoday operations of the camp. Working closely with the Camp Leads, the Lead Assistant helps supervise campers, manage activities and ensure safety protocols are followed. This position also involves the responsibilities of a camp counselor and Lead Assistants may be responsible for the care and safety of individual campers as needed. Key Responsibilities Assist Camp Leads in planning and leading daily activities, games and outings Supervise and actively engage with campers to ensure a safe and inclusive environment Work with Lead staff and camp counselors to support campers with behaviour challenges Participate in and support camper(s) in daily swimming activities Personal care, including toileting, changing, feeding, and lifting may be required Customize and adapt activities throughout the session to meet individual needs Support transitions between activities, outings and pickup and dropoff times Provide support to individual campers when their assigned camp counsellor is unavailable and/or during before and aftercare sessions Communicate effectively with campers, staff and parents when needed Utilize problemsolving skills and monitor activities to ensure campers safety and enjoyment Provide input for reports of serious incidents and occurrences as needed Ensures full compliance with Autism Ontario policies and procedures Ensures confidentiality of all participant records Assists with setup and cleanup of programs at the end of the season including: storing supplies and equipment, identifying broken equipment, and inventory count Additional Responsibilities Be responsible for the safety and security of staff and participants Follow Code of Conduct and Operational Policies of Autism Ontario Follow all Ontario Camp Association (OCA) standards Respond to First Aid and Emergencies as required Maintain health and safety standards by keeping program areas safe, clean and organized Complete incident report forms when necessary Follow Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) guidelines Prepare and maintain individual reports as appropriate Maintain a positive, energetic and inclusive camp environment and act as a role model for staff, volunteers and participants Other duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum of 3 years experience in working with individuals on the autism spectrum Minimum of 2 years postsecondary education or equivalent experience in a related field Minimum 1 year experience working in special needs camp or recreational program Experience in program planning is an asset Leadership experience is an asset Current criminal reference check including the Vulnerable Sector Check (6 months) Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C required (through Summer 2026) Current BMS training is an asset Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills and conflict resolution skills Individual must be able to participate with high energy in all scheduled activities Must be comfortable entering the pool and supporting camper(s) during swimming activities Demonstrated commitment to principles of social justice, neurodiversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism, antiBlack racism, antiableism Interested candidates should apply by submitting a resume and cover letter.
