Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - GTA based) Contract Duration: Up to 3 years Work Schedule: 35 hours per week Work Model: Hybrid (2-3 days onsite) About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support a large-scale transit infrastructure expansion program in the Greater Toronto Area. This role will contribute to long-term transit capacity improvements, including the planning and development of new train maintenance and storage facilities designed to support growing ridership and system resilience. The position involves working with multidisciplinary engineering teams, transit operations groups, and external stakeholders to deliver complex infrastructure projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Key Responsibilities Support the Project Manager in delivering infrastructure projects safely, on time, and within budget across all phases including planning, feasibility, design, procurement, and construction. Monitor engineering deliverables, technical performance, project milestones, and quality metrics throughout the project lifecycle. Lead system engineering integration activities and develop project requirements. Apply design and operational standards related to transit maintenance and storage facilities . Coordinate the design and construction of new facilities, upgrades, and improvements aligned with operational and accessibility standards. Lead value engineering initiatives to optimize design and ensure cost efficiency. Supervise and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering and design teams . Provide engineering support during project planning, design development, tendering, construction, commissioning, and project close-out. Prepare and manage construction contract documents , including technical specifications and drawings. Coordinate with internal engineering groups, utilities, external agencies, and third parties for permits, approvals, easements, and relocations . Track project scope, cost, and schedule , while managing risks and mitigation strategies. Prepare performance dashboards, KPI reports, and project updates for senior leadership and project steering committees. Resolve complex construction and stakeholder challenges through collaboration and strategic problem-solving. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, accessibility standards, and applicable legislation . Qualifications & Experience Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related discipline preferred). Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario Mandatory Minimum 10 years of engineering experience , including 5+ years in project management on major infrastructure or transit facility projects. Experience with train yards, rail facilities, or transit maintenance facilities is strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of project management methodologies , including conceptual planning and all phases of design. Experience with construction management, contract administration, and the Construction Act . Familiarity with government regulations, engineering standards, and safety procedures related to large infrastructure projects. Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage complex stakeholder environments. Strong communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (including Visio) and project reporting systems. PMP certification is considered an asset. License or Certification Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario Mandatory Additional Information Hybrid role requiring 23 days per week onsite and occasional site visits. Candidates must be accessible to the GTA to attend meetings and site visits with short notice. Consultants will be provided transit access for work-related travel .
