We are seeking a volunteer Board Member with 35 years of experience serving on a not-for-profit governing Board, along with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Legal : Knowledge of legal frameworks, regulatory compliance, or risk management, ideally within the non-profit or healthcare sectors Digital : Experience with digital transformation, IT systems, or data-informed strategy and decision-making Government Relations : Experience engaging with government stakeholders, contributing to public policy, or navigating the public sector landscape Financial : Recognized financial credentials with expertise in financial oversight, risk management, and strategic financial planning. Business Strategy & Growth : A background in business growth, mergers and acquisitions, or strategic expansion. Our Organization Nucleus Independent Living is a charitable, not-for-profit organization with more than 40 years of experience supporting people to live independently in their communities. We serve older adults with complex needs and adults living with permanent physical disabilities across the MississaugaHalton region, as well as in two supportive housing locations in West Toronto. Our team of skilled and compassionate Personal Support Workers (PSWs) delivers a range of personalized services that promote independence, dignity, and quality of life. These include supports for daily living, 24-hour hospital transition services, and attendant care provided in clients homes, workplaces, schools, and supportive housing settings. Nucleus also plays a leadership role in regional system coordination. Through our Central Registry program, we support streamlined access, intake, and eligibility across a network of community-based health and social service providers. This work helps connect individuals and families to a range of supports, including caregiver respite, food security initiatives, and transitional care programs. Our Regional Learning Centre builds capacity across the sector by providing training, education, and knowledge-sharing to support high-quality, coordinated care for individuals with complex needs At Nucleus we strive for excellence. We are a Great Place to Work certified organization that has received 5 consecutive, 3-year, accreditations by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Our service delivery models have been recognized locally, provincially, and federally. We have two Ministers Medals, two 3M National Awards, and regional awards for quality. All of our PSWs are required to be members in good standing with the Ontario PSW Association (OPSWA). Nucleus is skilfully governed by a highly motivated and talented group of 11 Board of Directors that oversees a budget of about $21M. Nucleus is fully funded by Ontario Health. Our Board meets a minimum of six (6) times per year, from September to June, and meetings are normally held in-person at its head office in Oakville, Ontario. In addition, Board members are required to participate in 2 of 3 Committees that have additional meetings throughout the year. Board education and strategic thinking sessions are also provided to keep members current on regional updates and Nucleus strategy.
