You are a lawyer with 1-4 years of experience in general corporate commercial matters, ideally including experience in the media, education, and digital content sectors, who is looking for more complex challenges across many areas of practice. This position is to support the Director, Legal Services and the entire Legal and Business Affairs team in meeting the needs of a wide array of internal clients on contract and legal and risk advisory issues. The work is concentrated on inhouse corporate legal services in a media and digital product organization with an emphasis on contract drafting, copyright and intellectual property and partnership advisory work. The successful candidate will be a customerfocused lawyer that can build and maintain excellent relationships with internal clients. They will have strong drafting skills with an eye to critical details, a solid background in corporatecommercial work and exposure to traditional IP, technology and content licensing. Comfort with databases, data analysis, project management, process improvement, and client relationships is important. Inhouse legal experience would be ideal. Media production and digital product experience is desirable. Prior experience working in the public sector, and an understanding of public procurement rules in Ontario is advantageous. How You Will Make An Impact Contract negotiation and drafting in the media and educational technology industries Contract interpretation and review of thirdparty contractual agreements Development of templates and standard form contracts, particularly for revenue and partnership arrangements; service agreements and other contractual arrangements Advising on business risk and negotiating positions with respect to media and digital product deals In conjunction with the Director, Legal Services, determine strategy for and prepare legal submissions in response to all real and potential claims against, or on behalf of TVO, and recommend legal recourses available to TVO, including engaging with outside counsel Advising on matters relating to procurement of goods and services Interpret regulations and legislation as might apply to different business lines and activities at TVO (incl. charitable status, education policy, corporations act, privacy legislation, etc.) Interpret Government Directives and Policy. Provide advice regarding their effect on TVO What You Will Bring To TVO An LLB or JD and a member of the Ontario bar Solid legal skills and a demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement Clear understanding of delivering legal services in support of organizational objectives, and a clientoriented focus Ideally, a strong familiarity with the media, education, and digital services sector An established ability to work within a team environment, particularly with business teams A people person with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships Highly developed research, analytical, and problemsolving skills, and an innovationoriented outlook Negotiation skills, and the ability to quickly get to the key issues and present persuasive legal positions to both internal and external parties Ability to identify and locate information required to properly contextualize situations, and to provide appropriate responses and/or advice Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, to explain complex legal situations in clear and simple terms, and the ability to build and maintain client relationships Highly developed organizational, multitasking, time, stress and project management skills to deal with numerous urgent adhoc requests, without compromising the quality of the work product being created or the advice being given Discretion in dealing with confidential information, and the ability to identify information as such Legal research skills, including the ability to quickly and thoroughly source relevant materials and synthesize results Demonstrated proficiency with various computer applications, including databases Strong drafting skills TVO & YOU We are a learning organization.
