Based out of our office in Toronto or a home office in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), youll join our environmental team and work as part of multidisciplinary project teams associated with our environmental offices that span across Canada. You will act as a lead Ecologist, contributing to the environmental planning and permitting efforts of government (federal, provincial, and municipal) and privatelyowned infrastructure projects. The work will include field data collection, writing technical reports, and regulatory applications. This position will start in the spring with an anticipated 75% of travel for fieldwork and 25% office work in peak field seasons. A successful offer will be fulltime or a 12month contract depending on workload and/or skillset. Contracts have the potential for extension or conversion to fulltime. Requirements B.Sc. in biology, forestry, or natural resources related to botany, ecology, or environmental sciences; an equivalent postsecondary diploma; or equivalent demonstrated experience International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification. Familiarity with industrystandard terrestrial monitoring protocols, including Ecological Land Classification (ELC), forest silviculture assessments, and related vegetation and habitat survey methodologies Strong professional writing skills, including the ability to prepare defensible arborist reports that meet provincial standards and municipal requirements Vascular plant identification skills. 25 years of relevant professional experience conducting arborist surveys and plan development Strong field skills and willingness to work in remote field locations for extended periods of time Ability to lead field crews and coordinate subsequent reporting efforts. A strong safety culture. A drivers license and a clean drivers abstract. Desired Qualifications Experience with surveying for Species at Risk listed species (both vegetative and wildlife). Ability to conduct multidisciplinary field scopes with guidance from subject matter experts, such as wetlands, wildlife, soils, and/or fisheries field assessments Knowledge and application of federal, provincial, and municipal environmental legislation, policies, and bylaws Strong problemsolving skills. Salary The base salary range for this position is $66,300.00 to $103,575.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across Ontario, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including jobrelated skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
