Job Description The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications for an academic position within the Division of Pediatric Immunology, Hematology/Oncology, Palliative Care and Environmental Health (iHOPE) in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. This position is a part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP). This full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track (contingent) position comprises approximately 60% time for clinical service and 40% time for academic pursuits, divided between research, teaching, and administrative duties (negotiable). The successful candidate will contribute to education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Responsibilities Clinical Excellence: Provide inpatient and outpatient care to Pediatric Hematology and Thrombosis patients, as part of a multidisciplinary team at the Stollery Childrens Hospital, Alberta Health Services. Participate equitably in after-hours and weekend on-call coverage. Education and Mentorship: Teach and mentor learners at all levels in clinical and academic settings. Research Contribution: Conduct impactful research in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and engage with the Women and Childrens Health Research Institute (WCHRI), which provides a robust infrastructure for research excellence in womens and childrens health. Collaboration and Engagement: Work closely with other programs, interdisciplinary teams, and healthcare professionals to advance Pediatric Hematology care and the education of Pediatric Hematology trainees. Qualifications MD degree (or equivalent) Completed specialty training in Pediatrics and subspecialty training in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Pediatric Hematology/Oncology) Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) Considered An Asset At least 1 year of advanced research training Completed Masters Degree or PhD Values and Qualities Emotional Intelligence: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster positive relationships with patients, families, learners, and colleagues Adaptability: A flexible and proactive approach in clinical, academic, and research environments Leadership and Initiative: The ability to inspire, mentor, and motivate learners and team members, contributing to a culture of excellence and innovation Teamwork: A collegial and collaborative spirit that thrives in a multidisciplinary setting About IHOPE The successful applicant will join the IHOPE (Immunology, Hematology, Oncology and Palliative care) division which includes five pediatric hematologists as well as multiple others including pediatric oncology, immunology and palliative care subspecialists, and basic scientists. Pediatric Hematology provides a full spectrum of classical hematological services. In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The division has an active basic and clinical science research program, collaborating locally, nationally, and internationally. This role would provide clinical support to existing pediatric hematology and KIDCLOT inpatient and outpatient services with a focus on classical hematology. The Pediatric KIDCLOT team is an internationally recognized program providing thrombosis, thromboprophylaxis and perioperative management as part of the Stollery Childrens Hospital Cardiac Sciences program and the Western Canadian Heart Network. The ideal candidate will contribute to building the research program within the pediatric haematology/KIDCLOT program contributing to the academic mission of the division and Department of Pediatrics. About WCHRI The Women and Childrens Health Research Institute (WCHRI) supports researchers within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Alberta Health Services. With a focus on advancing womens, childrens, and perinatal health, WCHRI provides extensive resources for faculty conducting research in these areas. As a member of WCHRI, the successful candidate will have access to funding opportunities, biostatistical expertise, qualitative design support, knowledge translation resources, and clinical trials services. WCHRI also invests in research development by supporting trainees through scholarships, fellowships, and travel grants for presenting research outcomes. Remuneration and Appointment Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the income scale of the six-step Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP). The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the Schedule A of the Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
