About the Role The DevOps and Cloud Manager is responsible for the strategic direction, reliability, and daytoday operation of the organizations cloud and platform infrastructure, primarily on AWS. This role ensures systems are secure, highly available, costeffective, and scalable, while enabling development teams to deliver software safely and efficiently. In addition to owning cloud infrastructure and CI/CD platforms, the DevOps and Cloud Manager provide operational leadership for reliability, incident response, disaster recovery, and platform governance. The role acts as the primary authority on DevOps and cloud practices, translating technical risk and investment needs into clear business outcomes for leadership. The position builds and leads the DevOps function, establishes operational standards and documentation, and reduces reliance on individual contributors through strong processes, automation, and knowledge sharing. Remote within Canada (our ideal candidate has the flexibility & maturity to manage a schedule that includes occasional virtual and inperson collaboration with teams in PST, India, and Northern Ireland) $130,000 - $155,000 CAD annual salary Full time, permanent role Five weeks of paid PTO annually Robust extended benefits, including a health spending account Key Responsibilities Own and evolve the organizations cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS), ensuring availability, security, scalability, and operational resilience. Define and enforce cloud architecture standards, guardrails, and reference patterns across environments. Maintain a clear platform roadmap aligned with business, product, and operational priorities. Review and approve significant infrastructure changes, tooling decisions, and architectural designs. CI/CD, Release & Change Management Own CI/CD platforms and deployment pipelines (e.g., GitLab), ensuring consistent, reliable, and secure delivery workflows. Define environment standardization and Infrastructure-as-Code practices. Establish release and change management standards, including deployment readiness, rollback strategies, and risk thresholds for production systems. Partner with Engineering and Product teams to support safe, predictable releases. Reliability, Monitoring & Incident Management Define and track service reliability objectives for critical systems. Ensure monitoring, alerting, and observability standards are implemented and maintained. Lead response to highseverity incidents, including coordination, communication, and escalation. Facilitate blameless postincident reviews, root cause analysis, and followthrough on corrective actions. Security, Identity & Compliance Enablement Lead integration of identity, access, and security controls across AWS, CI/CD platforms, and Microsoft Entra ID in partnership with Security and IT teams. Ensure cloud and pipeline security best practices are implemented, including leastprivilege access and secrets management. Support audits and security reviews by providing technical evidence, architecture explanations, and remediation leadership. Own technical remediation of security findings related to cloud and DevOps platforms. Backup, Disaster Recovery & Operational Readiness Design and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery strategies. Conduct regular disaster recovery testing and recovery simulations, validating recovery objectives and backup integrity. Report on operational readiness, risks, and improvement actions to leadership. Provide operational ownership of cloud cost optimization, usage monitoring, and forecasting. Partner with Finance to support budgeting, planning, and cost transparency. Evaluate, select, and manage cloud and DevOps vendors, including renewals, contract discussions, and tool consolidation where appropriate. Developer Experience & Enablement Improve developer productivity and platform usability by reducing friction in build, deploy, and operate workflows. Maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and selfservice tooling for development teams. Partner with Engineering to gather feedback and continuously improve the platform experience. Support onboarding and internal enablement related to DevOps and cloud tooling. Team Leadership & Operational Excellence Build, lead, and develop the DevOps function, including DevOps Engineers and Site Reliability roles. Define oncall, support, and escalation models that balance reliability with team sustainability. Establish career development paths, skills growth, and performance development for team members. Promote a culture of ownership, learning, and operational excellence. CrossFunctional & Executive Collaboration Translate technical risks, reliability concerns, and infrastructure investment needs into clear business impact. Provide regular updates to leadership on platform health, operational risk, and cost trends. Partner closely with Engineering, Product, Security, IT, and Finance teams to support organizational goals. What Success Looks Like Cloud platforms are reliable, secure, and resilient, with clearly understood risks and recovery capabilities. Development teams can deploy confidently with minimal friction. Incidents are handled calmly, transparently, and lead to measurable improvement. Cloud costs are visible, controlled, and aligned with business value. Knowledge is welldocumented, shared, and not dependent on any single individual. Ideal Candidate Profile Deep experience with AWS, designing, operating, and scaling production environments. Strong knowledge of DevOps and DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and security/hardening of cloud environments. Familiarity with identity, access, and compliance frameworks relevant to international standards. A high level of business acumen and the ability to translate technical concepts to nontechnical colleagues. Comfort in startup environments and the ability to build process, and roadmaps. Collaborative, solutionoriented, and able to foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. Experience 5+ years in platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud operations, with 1-2 years of team or project leadership experience. Handson experience with the tools and frameworks used in modern cloudbased engineering organizations. Familiarity with standards like ISO 27001, SOC 2, or GDPR, especially in environments with sensitive data. Experience with FinOps, cloud budgeting, and cost optimization in a multicloud or hybrid environment. Experience supporting globally distributed teams.
