Job Title: R&D Engineer, Academic Applications Department: R&D Academic Solutions Team: Academic Applications Location: Markham, Ontario Type of job: Full-time, Permanent Vacancy: This is for an active vacancy AI Statement: Artificial Intelligence will not be used to screen, assess or select applicants Start Date: As soon as Possible POSITION OVERVIEW We have an immediate need in our Engineering department for an academic content and software professional.This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for a motivated professional. You will be an integral member of our engineering team as you use your technical expertise, creativity, and modern digital media knowledge to develop engaging courseware, rich real-world applications, exciting demonstrations, and overall, help us improve the effectiveness and end-user experience for our systems. This position will also include a wide variety of diverse tasks such as persuasive content generation, product marketing and sales support. The ideal candidate has a degree in an engineering discipline, with a specialization in control, robotics, or mechatronics, and very strong English writing skills. They enjoy both hands-on engineering and customer-facing technical engagement. A strong understanding of how engineering courses are developed is essential, while experience as an instructor, teaching assistant, laboratory coordinator, or engineer would be an asset. Most importantly, you are passionate and dedicated to developing innovative new approaches to education. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in customer-facing activities, including tradeshows, webinars, technical sales presentations,technical blog writing, customer training, etc. Frequent collaboration with technical groups for courseware, applications, demonstrations, documentation, etc. Collaborate with sales and marketing to translate technical resources into compelling technical content Some travel, including international, will be required The go-to person for technical knowledge related to Quansers extensive product line Some custom R&D and application development may be required QUALIFICATIONS A bachelors degree in engineering from a recognized University. Mechatronics, robotics, or controls engineering specializations are preferred areas of study A graduate degree in an engineering discipline specializing in control, robotics, or mechatronics, is considered an asset Near-perfect English writing skills with an ability to express complex concepts in a clear, engaging, and professional manner is required Teaching experience as a TA or lecturer is an asset At least 1-3 years of professional experience in a progressive position in a technology company is preferred ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS Expert skills in technical communication tools including but not limited to digital presentation and multimedia software such as Microsoft 365, Adobe Suite, LaTeX, etc. Strong MATLAB Simulink and/or Python skills and programming knowledge (e.g., C++, Java) Experience and comfort with using and developing with ROS 1/2 Experience with control systems and/or machine learning design and development PREFERRED TECHNICAL SKILLS Experience using DAQ systems to interface to sensors and actuators Familiarity with the tools and techniques of modern digital media including, graphics, video, animations, social media, etc. Experience designing courses and developing course materials Experience with source control methodologies such as SVN, Github etc. Personal Credentials Required for Travel Must possess a valid Drivers License Must possess a Canadian Passport, or other valid documentation that would allow for seamless international travel, as required for the position Must be able to spend approximately 5-10% of the fiscal year, in the field with customers, as the business need arises COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES Passion for developing innovative approaches to education Excited by innovative technology Excellent English communication and editorial skills Thrives in a dynamic team environment Prolific while balancing attention to detail with efficiency Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Confident when dealing with cross-functional experts Tactful when pushing boundaries, questioning processes, and suggesting improvements Ability to focus, prioritize, multi-task, and meet difficult deadlines Comfortable working with minimum supervision Open to feedback and suggestions from co-workers and supervisor ABOUT QUANSER For over 35 years Quanser has been supplying the worlds universities with the most innovative technology to teach and research the most exciting and important fields in modern engineering robotics, mechatronics, control, and more. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Quanser has a team-oriented and technologically passionate culture, offering competitive compensation commensurate with experience level, ranging from approximately $55,000 - $95,000 and a full group benefits package including Health, Dental and Vision coverage.
