Position Summary Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Systems, the Associate Director, IT Infrastructure oversees the organizations physical and virtual servers and associated operating systems, network hardware, cabling, and email, ensuring that infrastructure is maintained to be current in a planned and coordinated fashion. Keeping up with the latest developments in server and network technologies, this role is involved in IT Planning and Budget processes, making recommendations that maximize performance capabilities while keeping costs low. The Associate Director works closely with Enterprise Architecture and Cybersecurity teams to define service level agreements for recovery of critical and non-critical services and ensure all operations are conducted in a secure environment. The Associate Director will lead a high-performing infrastructure team who support the colleges infrastructure hardware and operating systems by establishing consistent standards and operations, managing vendors, and ensuring essential services have appropriate back-up and recovery. Responsibilities Lead vendor management including negotiating services and pricing for both in-house and cloud based services, establishing service level agreements (SLAs), ensuring contracts are in place to support the services provided by the infrastructure team, monitoring vendors to ensure services are maintained at the agreed levels and planning for changes to hardware and software and maintain currency of software patches Establish, document, and maintain standards and procedures for all IT Infrastructure services and operations Create and maintain the Infrastructure Architecture document, in coordination with the Enterprise Architecture team. Monitor adherence to standards and follow up on any potential issues created by variances to standard operations; report significant exceptions to standard practices and determine an action plan to prevent recurrence Create and maintain a dashboard to report overall service levels Report, create and maintain standards and procedures for Incident Recovery and Disaster Recovery. Negotiate service level agreements with user and IT management for all critical services. Provide input and expertise to the Enterprise Architecture, IT Planning and Budgeting, and Contract Management functions in the College to identify investment needs for future upgrades to the IT Infrastructure Develop a strategy for implementing approved technologies so that there is minimal impact on the availability of services across the College Propose changes to the IT Infrastructure to improve efficiency and improve return on investment where new technologies can be leveraged or where changes in College operations have altered the requirements Create and maintain service level agreements for all Infrastructure operations and create disaster recovery plans for all critical services Coach, mentor, motivate and develop the IT Infrastructure team Provide leadership to the ITS team and college as required, on the direction, support and rationale for technology decisions Communicate broadly and deliver presentations to college wide committees and senior management Participates in the preparation and control of the operating budgets and revenue budgets to achieve objectives through the efficient and effective allocation of resources Qualifications / Experience 4-year degree in a technology-related disciplines such as Computer Science, Information Science, Information Technology, Information Management 11 years of progressive experience in Information Technology, including systems operations and leading IT Infrastructure projects. Experience must include at least three years in an IT leadership role ITIL certification or equivalent is required Knowledge of IT infrastructure design and operations, server technologies and operating systems, network design and support, cabling and switching systems, cloud based computing services Experience with Cloud computing/Elastic computing across virtualized environments Knowledge of practices and methods of IT service management Proven experience managing human, fiscal and material resources Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams and manage stakeholder relationships while implementing corporate strategic and business plans and related IT initiatives Superior strategic communications skills combined with political sensitivity and proven excellence in customer service Experience working with Collective Agreements and legislative requirements in a related unionized environment is preferred.
