At the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), we count on the expertise and dedication of our skilled interprofessional teams to meet the health care needs of clients with a wide range of diagnoses, and their families. We aim to enhance this care at our new McCain Complex Care Building located at CAMHs Queen Street Site, the home of our new Womens General Forensic Unit of the Complex Care and Recovery Program. This new building will offer spacious units; safe access to outdoor space and a variety of features designed improve patient care and enhanced safety features. Position Description The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a fulltime, permanent Registered Nurse to work in the Womens General Forensic Unit. As a Registered Nurse, you will: Provide clientcentered psychiatric and general nursing care for clients from diverse populations Facilitate evidencebased group and 1:1 programming Have a clear understanding of how to develop and implement forensic assessment plans and have a fundamental understanding of the forensic legal and mental health care systems Be expected to ensure the security and safety of the inpatient unit, and practise in accordance with professional regulatory standards, CAMH policies and procedures, the CAMH Practice Model of Care, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice Liaise with other CAMH services and community agencies, perform assessments, and develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of care for clients with a wide range of diagnoses Utilise critical thinking and a customerservice approach to care, and offer education, support and supervision to students Participate in clinical supervision and the research activities of the program This position requires day, evening, night and weekend rotations. This position is located at the Queen Street Site. A registered member, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario, you bring comprehensive knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, severe and persistent mental illness, addiction issues, recoveryoriented approaches, culturally competent care, traumainformed care, and group facilitation. You also have a demonstrated ability to make behavioural observations, conduct physical and mental status assessments, and monitor a clients response to pharmaceutical and care interventions. Additionally, you will have: Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are currently pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate Nursing experience caring for individuals with mental illness and/or addiction issues You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, psychosocial rehabilitation, severe and persistent mental illness and schizophrenia The demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour The skills to contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages interprofessional teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory requirements The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset Please Note This fulltime, permanent position is a 1.0 commitment, which may be subject to change as per the Collective Agreement.
