IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY Interim Vice President, Risk Duration: 4 - 6 Months Location: Toronto (hybrid) Our client, a high-profile Canadian not-for-profit organization headquartered in Toronto, is seeking an experienced Interim Vice President, Risk to support the organization and its leadership team through a period of transition. This role is a deliberate blend of hands-on operational leadership and senior level strategic advisory work. While the organization has strong technical foundations in risk, there are clear gaps in how risk insights are interpreted, applied, and translated for the broader organization and the Board. The interim executive will play a critical role in closing this gap. The mandate is focused on re-establishing the value, relevance, and credibility of the risk function, rebuilding trust and partnership with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and positioning risk as a constructive, business aligned enabler rather than a purely technical or compliance driven function. Mandate Overview Reporting into the executive leadership team, the Interim Vice President, Risk will: Provide visible, stabilizing leadership during a period of organizational transition Act as a trusted strategic advisor to the ELT and senior leaders Assess the current risk and resilience function, team capabilities, and operating model Strengthen the organizations ability to apply risk insights meaningfully in business and governance decisions Rebuild confidence, trust, and partnership between the risk function, the business, and executive leadership Key Accountabilities: Operational Leadership & Advisory Balance daytoday leadership of the risk function with seniorlevel advisory support to the ELT Translate technical risk information into clear, practical, businessrelevant insights Support executive decisionmaking by framing risk in terms of impact, tradeoffs, and mitigation options Establish effective executive and boardlevel communication and reporting rhythms. Risk Function & Team Assessment Conduct a rapid assessment of the risk team, including structure, skills, and alignment Evaluate existing risk frameworks, methodologies, and tools for practical business relevance Identify where risk practices are strong technically but weak in adoption, influence, or interpretation Provide clear recommendations to strengthen effectiveness, clarity, and business integration. Executive & Board Partnership Rebuild trust with the ELT by positioning risk as a partner to the organization, not a control function Improve how risk is communicated to senior leaders and the Board, focusing on clarity, relevance, and insight Support leadership and governance forums with concise, decisionoriented risk reporting Compliance, Operational & Strategic Risk Ensure continuity and quality of compliance and regulatory reporting during the transition Lead reviews of key operational risks, controls, and resilience measures Assess strategic risks, particularly those arising from organizational change and external pressures Ensure risk considerations are appropriately embedded in executivelevel planning and decisions. Cyber & Emerging Risk Review the organizations approach to cyber and technology risk, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders Assess preparedness for emerging risks, including digital, reputational, thirdparty, and operational threats Provide pragmatic, prioritized recommendations that strengthen resilience without unnecessary complexity. Success Measures Success in this engagement will be demonstrated by: Improved confidence and trust in the risk function from the ELT. Clearer articulation of the role, value, and purpose of risk across the organization. More effective executive and boardlevel risk reporting and dialogue. Practical recommendations for strengthening the application of risk in business decisions. A more collaborative, businessaligned relationship between risk, leadership, and operations.
