Job Description Posted Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 4:00 AM Position Objective and Results to be Achieved: Responsible for the overseeing daily operations of the engineering department and ensure a safe efficient and well-maintained hotel. Responsibilities: Participate in and oversee general repairs and preventative maintenance of the guest bedrooms and front and back of house areas with the involvement of the maintenance mechanics are required. Also to undertake any duties required outside the hotel building, in the hotel grounds, as required, to ensure that all areas of the property are maintained to the required standard. Be fully familiar with Hotel Fire and Emergency Procedures Represent the Chief Engineer in their absence, in all aspects relating to the department and to attend various meetings as required. Interact as appropriate with all guests, contractors, suppliers and members of local authorities. Oversee the day-to-day running of the shift / maintenance mechanics within the department. Ensure monthly statutory Shift / Duty engineer checks are carried out in full. Continuously endeavor to improve personal knowledge of the job and stay up to date on industry trends. Ensure that the plant rooms and workshop are maintained in a clean, orderly and tidy manner. Ensure guest satisfaction by performing duties such as attending to their requests and inquiries courteously and efficiently and accepting changes or addition to work hours which are necessary for the maintenance of uninterrupted service to hotel guests and patrons. Maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment in optimal operating condition by performing routine maintenance and repair checks. Liaise with the contractors on site and check their work before signing their work docket. Work in a safe manner and maintain cleanliness and order in the hotels power plant areas. Keep adequate levels of supplies required for hotel maintenance and keep the stock of materials to an agreed level. An active member of the emergency team of the hotel. Follow all applicable Safety and Regulation laws. Ensure that all potential and real hazards are reported immediately and appropriately. Follow emergency procedures to provide for the security and safety of guests and employees. Ensure a safe hotel by applying hotel regulations and adhering to existing laws and regulations. Use appropriate safety clothing and equipment as supplied. Inform and update the Director of Engineering on problems and unusual matters. Always be up-to-date on: hotel facilities, special promotions, and laws relating to own field and areas of responsibility. Maintain a favourable working relationship with employees and colleagues to promote a co-operative and harmonious working climate. Keep a daily record of all the work done in the department and ensure any outstanding works are checked and completed. Ensure that the preventative maintenance is carried out according to plan. Keep adequate levels of supplies required for the hotel maintenance and notify the Director of Engineering of equipment and supply requirements. Prepare weekly/monthly maintenance schedules together with the Director of Engineering. Allocate jobs to the Shift / Duty engineers and follow up on any outstanding work. Organize the shift rotation accordingly and in agreement with the DOE Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management. Must be available for 24-hour emergency response and provide on-call support for the building. Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual engineering budget, utility forecasting and expense control. Qualifications: High school or equivalent education required. Previous supervisory experience 4 th Class Stationary certificate is an asset. Appropriate Trade Certificates and post-secondary education are an asset. Previous experience as a maintenance mechanic; experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and locks.
