The Director of Dietary Support Services is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents through the strong leadership and motivation of Sienna team members. Rate of Pay: $55,451 - $69,314 This posting is for an existing vacancy. As a Director of Dietary Support Services your typical day will impact the following ways: Consults and works with the homes Dietitian as necessary on operational (related to production of special nourishments and supplements) and clinical issues. Ensures that the Dietary department operates in compliance with both the organizations policies and provincial long-term care legislation related to dietary standards, as well as with other relevant legislation affecting the department e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Committee, Ontario Labour Act, Union agreements, Human Rights Code, Public Health legislation. Co-ordinates, plans and implements all catering requests and submits catering cost reports to the Executive Director/Administrator. Ensures residents are part of the menu planning process for the home, testing food samples at the food committee meetings, approving the menu for the individual home. Supervises all aspects of food production and service of all meals and nourishments. Participates in home specific committees as directed by the Executive Director/Administrator. Chairs the Food Committee within the care community. Works with the Executive Director/Administrator in budget development and maintains the approved budget. Facilitates departmental budget by ensuring sufficient resources/equipment are available through budget preparation, maintenance and the hiring of appropriate team members and required staffing levels. Attract, hire, retain and develop the best talent - build a high performing team in consultation with the Executive Director/Administrator and Human Resources. Manage employee performance, relations and labour relation issues, including disciplining team members, according to the collective agreement and Human Resources guidelines. Engages Executive Director/ Administrator and Human Resources department for advice as needed. Supervises all production including food and non-food purchases, receiving, inventory control and implementation and follow up of Production sheets in the department. Ensure an effective risk management program for the dietary department, risks are identified, and addressed with corrective action according to support services policies and appropriate legislation. Supports and participates in quality initiatives by providing input and suggestions for improvement, reporting feedback to the Executive Director/Administration. Conducts all Dietary related audits according to a set audit schedule submitted annually to the Executive Director/Administration. Perform other duties as assigned. Must Haves Graduate of a recognized Food Service Supervisors diploma course. Must be a member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (Student memberships are not applicable). Member of or eligible for membership in the Ontario Society of Nutrition Management. Supervisory experience in a unionized environment and/or in a long term care setting is required. Must be knowledgeable of the Ontario Food Premises Regulation, Public Health regulations, Food Safety Code of Practice and Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating, relevant sections of the Long Term Care Homes Act and regulations 2007, ORCA and OH&S Act. Sound knowledge of the requirements of Canadas Food Guide. Knowledge of the techniques of large-scale purchase and preparation of food. Experience in large-scale budget and financial management as it relates to the operation of the Dietary Department. Working knowledge and understanding of the dietary and nutritional care needs and menu planning for the elderly, including special diets and textures. Knowledge of housekeeping and laundry operations and systems. All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants. Bonus Points For Having A membership of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (Student memberships are not applicable). Minimum of 2 years experience in the long-term care home sector is an asset. Knowledge of Point Click Care and using Synergy Program an asset.
