Position Information Sessional Lecturer - FAH295H5F - Topics in Art History Date Posted: 03/06/2026 Req ID: 47250 Faculty/Division: UofT Mississauga Department: UTM: Visual Studies Campus: University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) Description Course number and title: FAH295H5F Topics in Art History Topic description: This course provides students with an in-depth analysis of the art and architecture of Imperial Rome, from the rise of Augustus in the late first century BCE to the reign of Constantine in the early fourth century CE. By examining imperial portraiture, official state art, monumental public architecture, and provincial artistic traditions, students will investigate how Romes emperors used art and architecture to articulate power, identity, and ideology. The course engages with a wide range of archaeological evidence, visual and material culture, primary texts, and modern scholarly debates to provide an in-depth understanding of how imperial imagery shapedand was shaped bythe political, social, and cultural transformations of the Roman world. Mastery of the subject matter required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching a similar UTM course previously is required. Experience as a sole responsibility course instructor is an asset. Description of duties (May include but are not limited to): all normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course material, preparation and delivery of assignments, tests and/or exams, supervision of teaching assistants, marking of students work, submission of grades to university officials, and holding regular office hours.
