As a critical member of the leadership team, the Director prepares high-level strategies for the execution of the Divisions objectives along with briefings and support documents for News Managers to support their change leadership of CBC News teams. The Director ensures communication to staff is consistent across locations and departments, supporting leaders with coaching and communication materials. The Director advises the General Manager/ Editor-in-Chief and CBC News senior leadership team on all messaging and internal communications, bringing a high-level of expertise and a comprehensive knowledge of media industry trends to help shape the future direction of CBC News.****Main responsibilities:***** Strategic Communication Planning: As a critical member of the senior leadership team, the Director designs and executes multi-year strategic communication plans for CBC News. This role leverages industry-leading expertise to align newsroom teams with the evolving future direction and operational objectives of CBC News. In this capacity, the Director develops tailored strategies for operational and business priorities, large-scale change and transformation as well as culture and employee engagement initiatives, such as the recent structure change of CBC News leadership in 2026, integrated news assignment and responsive live strategy. Will also be responsible for advising and reviewing internal communication between CBC News and its unions.* Executive Advisory and Leadership Support: Provides high-level counsel to the General Manager/Editor-in-Chief and senior leadership team, acting as a strategic sounding board for internal communications. This involves balancing strategic objectives with the nuance required to maintain trust, transparency and morale within a fast-paced journalistic environment. In addition, this role would support the Chief of Staff in communications required for partners, the corporate office and the board of directors.* Operational Messaging & Consistency: Leads the harmonization of internal communications across all local, regional, and national teams to ensure a unified voice and clarity on strategic priorities. The Director serves as a key liaison between News leadership and departments such as Human Resources, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and national and local MarComms teams. By managing these cross-functional relationships, the Director ensures internal messaging is seamless, aligned with external communications, and consistently reflects the Divisions priorities.* Crisis & Issues Management: Acts as the lead for internal communication during critical or sensitive situations, providing senior counsel to mitigate reputational risk. The Director is responsible for developing strategies that maintain transparency and trust across the Division, ensuring that leadership messaging is timely, accurate, and aligned during editorial, operational, or industry-related crises.**We are looking for a candidate with the following:*** Post secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.* A minimum of 10 years progressive experience in corporate or internal communications, including at least 3-years in a senior management role.* Demonstrated success designing high-level communications strategies and a deep understanding of the media industry and the unique operational landscape of CBC News.* Proven ability to translate complex organizational strategies into sophisticated communications materials and high-impact delivery plans that ensure clarity, coordination and consistency.* Knowledge of the business of public affairs, marketing and communications and corporate communications at CBC and Radio-Canada.* Experience with crisis communication management* Experience with coaching and mentorship of senior leaders* Demonstrated experience in executive-level communication leadership, including the delivery of complex briefings and management of sensitive information* Proven ability to influence and direct co-creation of strategic plans with a multi-year horizon* Creative thinker able to produce compelling and clear communication materials* Sophisticated presentation skills including effective and persuasive executive level briefings* Knowledge of communication software, graphics software and AI tools, along with Google suite and Workday* High-level of English fluency in written and spoken communication* Ability to distill varied and complex materials into clear and effective communications* Exceptional writing and editing, strategic thinking, storytelling, and proficiency with digital communication platforms.* Travel Expectations 10%**This is a full time permanent position that can be based anywhere in Canada from a CBC/Radio-Canada Station.
