RVA is looking for an Ecologist to join our Ecological Services Team for a one-year contract position. We are seeking an effective communicator with a positive mindset who is committed to delivering highquality work. The successful applicant will work alongside experienced ecologists, be encouraged to think outside the box, collaborate in innovation, and help shape the future of RVA. Responsibilities Assist multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, ecologists, and planners, on development and infrastructure projects Conduct background reviews and consult with regulatory agencies Participate in a wide range of field investigations, such as: Fish and wildlife surveys Stream assessments Tree inventories Wetland classification Floral inventories Vegetation community classification Species at risk surveys Compile and analyze environmental data Prepare technical reports and documentation Support the preparation of environmental permits and approval applications Conduct aquatic and terrestrial habitat assessments Perform environmental monitoring during construction activities Qualifications Diploma, Bachelor''s or Masters degree in Ecology, Biology or Environmental Science/Management A minimum of 27 years of experience in the areas of Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science or related disciplines Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector/Practitioner certification or demonstrated experience is an asset GIS skills are an asset Experience with targeted surveys for plants, herpetofauna, birds, fish, mussels, mammals or insects Experience working with multidisciplinary teams Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule Access to a personal vehicle and a valid Class G drivers license Strong oral and written communication, reportwriting, organization, and interpersonal skills Enthusiasm and willingness to rise to challenges is a strong asset Compensation The salary range for this position is: $60,000$90,000 per year. Compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business needs.
