Course Information Course Number and Title: STA260H5F, LEC101 Probability and Statistics II Course Description: A sequel to STA256H5 introducing current statistical theory and methodology. Topics include: Sampling distributions, point estimation, confidence intervals, testing (Neyman-Pearson Theorem, uniformly most powerful test, likelihood ratio tests), unbiasedness, consistency, sufficiency, complete statistics, and exponential family; Fisher Information and the Cramer-Rao inequality; simple linear models. Course Enrolment (Estimated): 120 Number of Positions: 1 TA Support: 50 hrs per tutorial & per semester Sessional Dates of Appointment: July 1, 2026 Aug 31, 2026 Class Schedule: Tue 10:00 - 13:00, Tue 10:00-13:00 and Fri 11:00-13:00 Responsibilities Responsible for all aspects of delivering a university credit course including planning the lectures, tutorials, assignments and tests and marking schemes; providing appropriate contact time outside of class to students through office hours and emails; invigilating the final exam; managing the grades and submitting the final course grades; dealing with student petitions, and setting and grading a make-up exam if required. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Statistics, completed or nearly complete. Exceptional candidates with a Masters in Statistics will be considered. Advanced comprehension of the subject matter as evidenced by research activity and/or advanced teaching experience. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable currency and mastery.
