Job Description

A leading civil and industrial construction contractor is seeking an Estimator Civil Construction to support estimating and pre-construction activities for infrastructure and industrial projects across Ontario. This role will focus on preparing accurate cost estimates, supporting bid submissions, coordinating with subcontractors, and assisting senior estimators, while building expertise in civil construction estimating.Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Cost DevelopmentAssist in preparing detailed estimates for civil construction scopes including earthworks, concrete, underground utilities, and structural work.Perform quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and site documentation under guidance from senior estimators.Develop cost breakdowns for labour, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work.Apply productivity rates, logistics considerations, and risk allowances into pricing.Ensure estimate assumptions align with construction means and methods.Pre-construction & Bid SupportSupport preparation of bids, proposals, and budgets for public and private sector projects.Participate in bid reviews, identifying scope gaps and constructability issues.Issue and manage RFQs/RFPs to subcontractors and suppliers.Assist in reviewing subcontractor pricing, exclusions, and commercial terms.Prepare tender submissions, clarifications, and supporting documentation as directed.Team Collaboration & DevelopmentCoordinate with project managers, engineers, operations teams, and senior estimators to ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates.Support junior estimators in developing take-off and pricing skills.Maintain professional relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.Systems & Continuous ImprovementUtilize estimating tools such as Bluebeam, Excel, AutoCAD and scheduling software.Contribute to maintaining cost databases, productivity benchmarks, and estimating templates.Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency.RequirementsExperience5+ years of estimating experience in civil construction.Background in self-performed concrete, excavation, and underground utilities.Exposure to preparing full-scope civil estimates, ideally under guidance of senior estimators.Understanding of construction methods, productivity rates, and cost modeling.Experience with contract review, bid analysis, and risk assessment is a plus.SkillsCivil quantity take-offs and cost estimating.Subcontractor and supplier coordination.Support in bid strategy and proposal development.Risk identification awareness.Strong analytical and organizational skills.Attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to meet tight bid deadlines.Software & ToolsBluebeamMS ExcelAutoCAD Project scheduling tools (Primavera, MS Project, or similar)EducationDegree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or related field.Certifications (Preferred)Gold Seal EstimatorProfessional Quantity Surveyor (PQS)Project Management Professional (PMP)BenefitsCompetitive compensation and performance incentivesHealth, dental, and vision benefitsProfessional development and training supportCareer growth opportunitiesPaid vacation and flexible work environment
