They are seeking a Senior Estimator to lead the development of competitive, executable estimates for large, complex transportation and heavy civil projects serving provincial, municipal, regional, and privatesector clients. This role is ideal for experienced builders who understand that strong estimates are grounded in quantities, production planning, and real construction experience not reliance on subcontractor pricing. Senior Estimator Heavy Civil & Transportation Greater Toronto Area, Ontario The Role The Senior Estimator is a senior technical and strategic contributor responsible for estimating some of our clients most significant pursuits, including projects exceeding $100million, with exposure to highly complex, integrated packages approaching or exceeding $300million. Working within a selfperform environment, this role requires deep understanding of how projects are actually built from earthworks and underground utilities through paving, structures, and corridorbased delivery. The Senior Estimator works closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and operations leaders to ensure estimates are accurate, executable, and aligned with field realities. Key Responsibilities Estimating Leadership Lead the preparation of detailed estimates for largescale heavy civil and transportation projects, routinely exceeding $100million in value. Contribute to or lead estimates for highly complex, multidiscipline projects, including integrated corridor and site development work valued at $300million+. Own estimate development from initial review through submission, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with execution strategy. Takeoffs & Quantity Driven Estimating Perform and oversee comprehensive quantity takeoffs across integrated scopes, including: Earthworks and grading Underground utilities and drainage Asphalt milling, paving, and recycling Concrete paving, structures, and flatworks Transportation corridors, yards, and site development Interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope gaps, assumptions, and risk exposure. Ensure quantities are aligned with construction sequencing, access constraints, traffic staging, and schedule logic. Self Perform & Constructability Focus Develop estimates from first principles, incorporating labor, crew composition, equipment strategies, material sourcing, production rates, indirects, and risk. Collaborate closely with Superintendents and field leaders to validate means and methods, productivity assumptions, and logistical constraints. Identify opportunities to leverage selfperform capabilities to improve competitiveness, margin confidence, and execution certainty. Bid Strategy & Collaboration Partner with estimating, operations, and leadership teams to develop bid strategies, pricing positions, and value engineering options. Participate in internal bid reviews, risk assessments, and executive decision making. Support effective handover to project teams, ensuring quantities, assumptions, and execution risks are clearly communicated. Risk Management & Continuous Improvement Identify technical, commercial, and execution risks early in the estimating process and articulate mitigation strategies. Incorporate lessons learned from completed projects into future estimates. Support continuous improvement of estimating standards, tools, benchmarks, and production models. Experience & Qualifications Diploma or Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline. 10+ years of progressive estimating experience in heavy civil and transportation construction. Proven experience preparing estimates for projects exceeding $100million. Ideal candidates will have successfully contributed to or led estimating efforts on selfperformed projects totaling $300million or more, built from detailed takeoffs and quantities. Experience estimating integrated work for provincial, municipal, regional, and privatesector clients. Deep understanding of construction materials, methods, sequencing, and productionbased pricing. Expert level knowledge of OPSS and Ontario construction standards. Experience with Design Build, AFP, or alternative delivery models is an asset.
