Job Description Lead Data and AI Engineer Are you someone who is passionate about building large, scalable, distributed data systems? Join us at the intersection of finance and cutting-edge technology in one of Canadas largest banks, where your work directly impacts some of the key strategic financial decisions under T&O Transformation & Chief Operating Office (TCOO). Our Data Strategy and AI Technology Enablement team is responsible for supporting and maintaining the data platform that drives key financial and operational decisions through the adoption of generative AI in alignment with RBCs internal GenAI initiatives. Our ecosystem is a mix of databases, data pipelines, APIs, microservices, web applications and dashboards. We are looking for an engaged, self-motivated and goal-oriented individual to lead the transformation of our existing data infrastructure on to the RBC internal cloud platform. You will be responsible for defining the data architecture and technical direction, working closely with cross functional teams, and leads and mentoring other engineers to deliver scalable, reliable and high-impact solutions to meet the needs of all business initiatives within TCOO. What will you do? Technical leadership and architecture: Drive high-level architecture and technology decisions, setting best-practices and coding standards, ensuring the overall data infrastructure is scalable, reliable and aligned with RBCs enterprise organizational strategies Cross-functional collaboration: Work more extensively with various line of businesses, analytics teams and other engineering groups on gathering requirements and translating them into technical design specifications for implementation Ownership and accountability: Take end-to-end ownership of the entire data and reporting platform within TCOO and be proactive on communicating with partnering teams on root cause analysis and ETAs when issue arises Mentorship and team development: Spend a significant of your time and effort in coaching junior and mid-level engineers, conducting code reviews, and helping team members grow their technical expertise around big data, enterprise software architectures and GenAI/LLMs Strategic thinking: Beyond solving immediate problems, you will also be expected to strategize and scale future emerging technologies and how the data infrastructure needs to evolve as the organizational goal/initiative changes What do you need to succeed? Must Have A post-secondary degree or masters degree in STEM with 5+ years of experience in full-stack software application development 5 - 8 years of experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred Databases, data warehouses and/or data lakes (MS SQL, Postgres, HDFS, S3, Databricks, Snowflake) Big data ETL processing frameworks (Spark, Glue, Hadoop or equivalent) Frameworks for development of microservices, APIs, and web applications (FastAPI, Django) Experience with programming languages in Python, Scala as well as query languages (SQL-like) Knowledge of full-stack software and data engineering best practices in an agile Creative and analytical thinker who is goal-driven, self-motivated and capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Excellent interpersonal and highly effective communication skills (verbal and written) Passion for user experience with a drive to advocate for data quality, accuracy and consistency in front of stakeholders and partnering teams Nice to Have Experience in designing and building big data pipelines using Apache Airflow or other workflow orchestration tool Experience with Cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services and/or Microsoft Azure) is an asset Experience with non-relational database technologies (document, graph, vector) is an asset Experience prototyping and productionize RAG-based applications and agentic AI workflows with research background in applying LLM/GenAI solutions is a plus Experience in building and maintaining dashboards using Grafana, Tableau, Superset is a plus Whats in it for you?
