Role: Data Business Analyst Location: Toronto, ON (Day 1 Onsite with Hybrid) Duration: Long Term Contract Job Description: We are seeking a senior Data Business Analyst with strong domain experience in Private Markets (Real Estate, Infrastructure, Natural Resources) or Capital Markets. This is a specialized rolenot a generalist BA position. You will partner closely with engineering teams as the functional lead, helping design and build a core investment data model within our Databricks Data Lake. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with complex investment structures and can translate business requirements into clear, actionable technical specifications, including SourcetoTarget Mappings (STM) and Slowly Changing Dimension (SCD Type 2) logic. Key Responsibilities Requirement Discovery: Independently lead workshops with Business users, fund managers, and operations to capture data requirements for non-publicly traded assets. Data Modeling Collaboration: Work side-by-side with Data Architects to design a robust core data model that handles the unique lifecycle of Private Market investments. Source-to-Target Mapping (STM): Create granular mapping documents that define how data flows from disparate sources (internal systems, third-party fund admins, spreadsheets) into the Data Lake. Technical Specification: Define logic for Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD Type 2) to ensure historical accuracy of investment valuations and positions over time. Data Analysis & Validation: Use SQL to query complex datasets, perform gap analysis, and validate that the engineering output matches the business reality. Agile Delivery: Own the product backlog for the data stream, writing crisp User Stories and Acceptance Criteria in an Agile/Scrum environment. Technical & Functional Requirements: Domain Expertise : Hands-on experience in Private Markets (Real Estate, Infrastructure, Timber, Farmland) or Capital Markets (Investment Banking/Asset Management). Data Engineering Literacy : Strong understanding of Databricks/Spark environments, Data Lakehouse architecture, and Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold). SQL Proficiency : Advanced SQL skills for data profiling, auditing, and troubleshooting. Data Concepts : Deep knowledge of SCD Type 2, Dimensional Modeling, Primary/Foreign Key relationships, and Metadata management. Documentation : Proven track record of creating high-quality BRDs, STMs, and Data Dictionaries.
