At SGH, you will join a team of curious and talented designers focused on corporate workplace design, along with an expanding portfolio in hospitality and multi family residential projects.The PositionAs Senior Designer, you will play a key role in contributing to the design and documentation process across all project phases, from pre-design through project close out. You will collaborate closely with project teams to support concept development, technical documentation, and project delivery while mentoring junior staff and maintaining strong client relationships.What You BringStrong understanding of workplace design trends and culture driven workplace strategiesDemonstrated ability to manage project responsibilities and contribute to mid to large scale projectsAbility to direct small teams, including developing guidelines, distributing and reviewing workStrong visualization and concept development skills, with the ability to translate design concepts into clear, detailed design solutionsExcellent problem solving skills for technical, design, and implementation challengesResponsible for own time management and work flowInitiate discussions around project improvements and contribute to our bi-weekly 'lessons learned'Commitment to mentoring junior staff and supporting knowledge sharing across the teamFamiliarity with local building codes, accessibility standards, and sustainable design frameworksKnowledge of sustainable design principles (LEED, WELL, Fitwel, etc.)Key ResponsibilitiesContribute to the design dialogue across project phases and teamsApply knowledge of workplace design trends, visioning, and culture driven design strategiesParticipate in concept development for mid to large scale projects (30,000 SF+) and support design direction with project teamsParticipate in preparation of project documentation from pre-design through project close outLead and facilitate visioning sessions; document and analyze outcomesLead and participate in client and consultant meetings and presentationsPrepare project budgets, schedules, and related project documentationReview and coordinate drawings and documentation internally and with engineering consultantsEnsure drawings comply with building codes and accessibility requirementsSupervise preparation of architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documentsParticipate in tender preparation and analysis of construction documentationSupport construction administration including site visits, change notices, site instructions, and certificates for paymentParticipate in industry and SGH design eventsReport weekly to assigned Team Lead on project progressWeekly time tracking and review with Team LeadMaintain personal project time logs using AjeraMentor junior designers and support their professional development, including performance feedback and project scheduling coordinationQualificationsDegree or diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, Architectural Technology or related disciplineMinimum of 10+ years design experience within the local industryNCIDQ certification required; additional professional designations are considered beneficial and supportedConsideration for BCIN certification is encouragedStrong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and design software, including Adobe Creative SuiteStrong knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft 365Experience in corporate workplace design or commercial sectors; hospitality experience is beneficialCanadian project design experience requiredBenefitsYear round summer hoursVacation & personal timeComprehensive group benefits plan (medical, dental & extended health)Bi-weekly SGH team lunchesBi-weekly supplier lunch & learnsAnnual performance & career development mentorshipWhy SGH?Were a team that values curiosity, collaboration, and creative thinking.
