JOB DESCRIPTION Jefferies is seeking an associate for its Metals and Mining Equity Research team in Toronto. In this role, the associate will compile and analyze industry and macro data and trends as well as commodity market fundamentals and company financials. The associate will be primarily responsible for building and maintaining financial models and industry databases to ensure correct and up-to-date information for research reports that are distributed to internal and external clients. The associate will also work closely with the team to write the aforementioned reports, including earnings reports, company reports, monthly and weekly publications and initiation reports. As part of this process, the associate will review business and trade publications, annual reports, financial filings and other sources to gather, synthesize, and interpret data on companies followed by the team. Over time, the associate will also be responsible for communicating recommendations to sales, trading, and clients. In addition, the associate will help develop marketing materials for clients, meet with management teams of companies, and attend industry conferences where appropriate. Required Background Bachelor's Degree with high GPA Strong academic background, with a focus on geology or engineering preferred 3-5 years of mining experience and/or financial services experience, preferably in sell-side/buy-side equity research or investment banking Strong analytical and problem-solving skills strong Excel skills will be critical Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail Demonstrated ability to work in a time-sensitive environment Ability to work effectively in a team environment Resourcefulness, entrepreneurial spirit and proven leadership qualities Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in metals and mining Strong interest in the global economy and markets Solid experience in business modeling and financial statement analysis About Us Jefferies is a leading global, full-service investment banking and capital markets firm that provides advisory, sales and trading, research, and wealth and asset management services.
