We support Pasons unique culture and values through recruitment, payroll, benefits, compensation, training and development, and employee relations.The RolePason is seeking a temporary Payroll Specialist to join the HR team for a 16-month term. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, Canada, you will be the sole administrator of salary and hourly payroll for 400+ employees across multiple provinces and 2 different companies.Responsibilities:Payroll Processing & AdministrationManage endtoend payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees on a semimonthly cycle, ensuring accuracy in earnings, deductions, benefits, and statutory requirementsProcess longterm incentive payouts, annual bonuses, and offcycle payments, ensuring appropriate approvals, tax treatments, and documentationEnsure timely and accurate entry and maintenance of employee data (new hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, leaves, terminations) while maintaining data integrity across payroll systemsProcess quarterly director fee payments, including calculations, tax treatments, and reportingOversee the submission and validation of project timesheets for SR&ED reporting, ensuring documentation meets compliance standardsPrepare and reconcile payroll reports (payroll journals, cost allocations, general ledger entries) and support monthend and quarterend close in collaboration with FinanceReconcile and remit all statutory deductions (CPP, EI, tax) and other required remittances to CRA in accordance with federal and provincial guidelinesComplete all yearend activities, including T4 preparation and distribution, ROEs, and yearend reconciliations for employees and directorsParticipate in quarterly and annual payroll audits, providing documentation, explaining variances, and implementing corrective actionsMaintain internal controls, documentation, and audit trails for all payroll processes to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulationsAdminister WCB reporting and premium remittances, reconcile premiums, manage rate changes, and support WCB audits as neededAdminister monthly reconciliation of benefit amounts for all employeesProvide monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliation of payrollrelated liability accounts with accurate supporting documentationStakeholder Collaboration & SupportCollaborate with HR, Finance, external auditors, and government agencies to ensure payroll practices align with regulatory requirements and organizational policiesProvide timely support, expertise, and guidance to internal stakeholders on payrollrelated inquiries, processes, and best practicesQualifications:Experience and working knowledge of payroll systems (UKG experience would be an asset)Understanding of Employment Standards in across CanadaDeep understanding of Canadian payroll tax laws and regulationsAttention to detail, especially in documentation and data entryExcellent organizational and time management skillsAbility to deal with sensitive situationsSolid experience with MS Word and Excel softwareAbility to adapt and learn new processes quicklyExperienceA minimum of 5 years of previous experience in payroll administration, preferably as a sole administratorEducationPayroll Certification (National Payroll Institute) is essentialPerks and BenefitsCompetitive compensation packagesExtended health benefitsWork life balanceHealth & wellness supportOpportunities to give backGreat vacation timeEmployee & family eventsAny offer of employment is conditional on the completion of positive and satisfactory background checks, which may include, proof that you are legally entitled to work in Canada, verification of educational background, a drug and alcohol test (for safety sensitive positions) and criminal background checks. #J-18808-Ljbffr
