The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen within Orthopaedics at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Charge Nurse. We are seeking a caring and hardworking individual to join our team and deliver a high standard of patient care within the Unit. The Orthopaedic Unit at QEUH provides care and treatment for a wide range of specialist surgeries, including fracture and injury management, as well as elective orthopaedic procedures for the South of Glasgow. The Unit comprises 112 beds, and this post is based in our 28bed trauma receiving ward. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organisational and clinical skills and will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure highquality care delivery. The Band 6 Charge Nurse plays a key role in supporting the Senior Charge Nurse with team leadership and staff development. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern Permanent, Fulltime Shift Pattern 12hour shift pattern over 7 days/nights Base location Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain expert clinical practice across all areas of the ward. Assess patient needs and plan, deliver and evaluate highquality care. Demonstrate and expand professional clinical skills in line with patient needs. Ensure safe, effective and timely communication within the multidisciplinary team, patients and carers. Maintain high standards of documentation and adhere to NMC guidance. Adhere to the NMC Code and all professional guidelines. Participate in audit activity and support the development of evidencebased practice. Lead, supervise and mentor junior staff and students, providing guidance and ensuring learning needs are met. Continuously develop personal practice using evidencebased knowledge. Provide senior leadership and manage the ward in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse. Support HRrelated duties including rota planning, conduct management, leave management, mandatory training and sickness absence processes. Ensure effective management of ward resources, including equipment, supplies and medication. Comply with all hospital, organisational and national policies. Report and document incidents, accidents or complaints appropriately. Essential Qualifications Registered Nurse (NMC) with experience and recent acute orthopaedic background. Strong professional development record and advanced clinical knowledge/skills. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, numerical and IT abilities. Good understanding of relevant hospital policies and effective timemanagement. Able to use initiative and work confidently in a clinical environment. Desirable Qualifications Cleanliness Champions Programme completed. Working towards a nursing degree, plus an optional management qualification. Recognised Dementia Champion training.
