When we are inclusive and diverse in a way that reflects the broader world we serve, we are able to draw from a wider community of excellence within the regions we operate.Are you looking toProvide expertise in the fields of Wildlife Biology while developing and collaborating with a team to deliver high quality products.Have autonomy and the opportunity to interact and work with a community of technical experts from other Montrose regions.Play a substantial role in project delivery, predominantly in project oversight in a Technical Advisor capacityPartner with extensive, long-standing clients such as municipal governments, conservation authorities, academia, and private industry.Join a well-respected environmental consulting company engaged in interesting, dynamic workAs a Senior Wildlife Biologist, you will join our Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta office(s) as part of our Western Aquatics & Wildlife team.The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of projects with responsibilities as follows:Active participation in maintaining Montroses strong safety cultureProvide technical expertise and leadership on environmental regulatory applications in line with regulationsProvide senior review, technical expertise, and leadership on wildlife focused programsLead or provide technical expertise on wildlife baseline programs, preconstruction assessments, wildlife sweeps, and protocoldriven surveys for birds, raptors, amphibians, bats, mammals, and species at risk.Provide wildlife expertise for baseline/pre-construction assessments and construction and post-construction monitoring to ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory guidelines and/or commitmentsProvide senior review and professional sign-off on client and regulatory deliverables within their fields of expertiseLead and/or support colleagues in developing and maintaining project opportunities with existing and new clientsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistency and quality in project executionOffer mentorship, training and technical guidance to intermediate and junior staffWork as project manager for projects and proposals. Tasks include developing project proposals, work plans and project budgets, budget forecasting, resource management, change-order management and client invoicingLiaise with contractors and external stakeholdersWhat We Are Looking ForB.Sc. or M.Sc. in Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science or a related fieldFamiliar with the Western Canadian environmental regulations10+ years of work experience in environmental consulting or related industryProfessional Biologist (P.Biol.) designation in relevant Practice Areas.Demonstrated experience with Alberta wildlife survey protocols, predisturbance sweeps, and field methodologies.Able to perform periodic field workExperience implementing and providing guidance to staff on conducting wildlife surveys following standard procedures such as the Sensitive Species Inventory GuidelinesStrong understanding of provincial and federal legislation, including:Alberta Wildlife Act & Wildlife Sweep ProtocolsSensitive Species Inventory GuidelinesMigratory Birds Regulations (2022)Species at Risk ActAER, AEP, AUC processesExperience with wildlife components of EIAs, constraints analysis, mitigation planning, monitoring programs, and regulatory reporting.Direct environmental and regulatory related experience in various markets including power, mining, and oil and gasExperience working with multi-disciplinary teams as a technical advisor or technical reviewerStrong communication ability, both written and oral, with excellent interpersonal skillsDemonstrate leadership and communication skills in a collaborative environmentValid class 5 drivers license with no restrictionsWhy Choose Montrose?At Montrose you will be part of an amazing community of collaborative people who live shared mission and principles and bring industry-leading technical expertise to their work every day.
