As a Lead Fire Investigator, based at our Mississauga location, you are a key member of our Forensics team in developing and executing remediation strategies and activities for our clients. Reporting to the Director of Forensic Services, this is an excellent employment opportunity for the person qualified to complement our investigation services team. Duties and Responsibilities of the Position The core responsibilities of our fire investigator include, but are not limited to: origin and cause fire investigations, vehicle and equipment fires, explosions collection and preservation of evidence adhering to chain of custody procedures keeping the client informed at all stages of the investigation liaising with fire department, police department, public safety officials, and others conducting interviews of various stakeholders, witnesses, officials, and other third parties preparing concise unbiased reports of findings and recommendations discretion while working with potentially sensitive and confidential information the identification of general safety of the site and fire damaged areas recognizing potential subrogation opportunities the ability to work at heights, climb ladders, work in different environmental conditions As McEwen manages sites across Ontario, this position involves travel, emergency response, and occasional overnight posting. A valid Ontario drivers licence and access to a reliable vehicle is a requirement of this position. There are also times when a security clearance is required in order to gain access to a job site, necessitating a Criminal Background Check. About You The successful candidate will be highly proficient in performing forensic fire investigations for structures, vehicles, and equipment. You will conduct investigations in numerous forms; residential, retail, institutional, office, industrial and commercial spaces. The following achievements are expected of the applicant: minimum of 5 years experience as Lead Investigator Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) designation or equivalent (IAAI or CAFI) practical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems working knowledge of the requirements of Part 3 of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) working knowledge of the current Occupational Health & Safety Act familiarity with National Fire Code of Canada familiarity with NFPA 96 experience in project management and effective management of field staff and contractors excellent problem-solving skills strong written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to brief stakeholders on complex issues in a succinct manner familiarity with Microsoft Office software applications positive, can do, personal attitude coupled with natural curiosity ability to work under stressful conditions relate well to clients and co-workers Additional qualifications would be considered strong assets: high-level technical knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems post-secondary education in a field related to forensic investigation current license to practice Professional Engineering in Ontario experience with insurance-related work fluency in French Whats In It for You We are pleased to offer competitive compensation, a progressive and challenging workplace and a commitment to teamwork and integrity.
