We engage lawyers strictly as independent contractors operating through the Firms platform.If you are entrepreneurial, self-directed, and committed to professional excellence, this opportunity allows you to grow your practice within a structured and compliant framework.Our PlatformPax Law provides, at its own operational cost and risk:Fully equipped office premisesPractice management and billing systemsTrust accounting infrastructureCompliance protocols and regulatory oversightAdministrative and intake staffLegal assistants and paralegal supportMarketing and client acquisition systemsTechnology, cybersecurity, and cloud-based file managementCentralized management and risk controlsThe Firm underwent a Law Society compliance audit in the second half of 2025, confirming that its operations, trust accounting, and practice management systems were in good order, subject only to minor and non-material observations.Maintaining this level of compliance requires sustained investment and oversight, which the Firm continuously bears.Nature of the RelationshipLawyers engaged with Pax Law:Operate as independent contractorsAre not employees, partners, or dependent contractorsMaintain professional independence in handling their filesControl the manner, means, and location of their work (subject to client needs and regulatory rules)Bear the full risk of profit and loss associated with their practiceThere is no salary, draw, guaranteed income, vacation pay, benefits, or bonus structure.Compensation is strictly percentage-based.Contractors are compensated solely through a percentage of Net Collected Billings.Net Collected Billings means funds actually received by the Firm for the Contractors billable legal services after all disbursements, overhead, administrative expenses, write-offs, chargebacks, refunds, and applicable taxes have been fully recovered.There is no fee split on: Invoices issuedFee split is calculated semi-monthly as follows: 50% where Net Collected Billings are under $5,000 60% where Net Collected Billings are $5,000 to under $10,000 65% where Net Collected Billings are $10,000 or moreThis structure reflects the substantial infrastructure, operational costs, regulatory compliance systems, and business risk borne by the Firm.Mandatory Overhead RecoveryAll overhead, administrative, staffing, compliance, and technology costs attributable to Contractor files must be properly recorded, billed to clients, and recovered prior to any fee split.Contractors have an affirmative obligation to ensure expenses are correctly billed.The Firm may adjust, correct, or recover unbilled or underbilled overhead from:Client trust fundsAccounts receivableContractor distributionsThis ensures regulatory compliance, financial transparency, and institutional sustainability.Jurisdictional ScopeThe Firm operates in:British ColumbiaAlbertaHeadquarters, governance, billing, accounting, and trust administration remain in British Columbia.Professional Standards & IndemnificationContractors must:Maintain good standing with their applicable Law SocietyCarry required professional liability insuranceComply with all regulatory and ethical obligationsProtect Firm confidentiality, intellectual property, and systemsContractors agree to indemnify the Firm in accordance with the Independent Lawyer Services Agreement.Who This Role Is ForThis model is ideal for lawyers who:Want autonomy without building infrastructure from scratchAre entrepreneurial and revenue-focusedUnderstand cost recovery and business realitiesValue regulatory compliance and structured systemsValue regulatory compliance and structured systemsPrefer a performance-based compensation structureIt is not suited for lawyers seeking:Employment statusMinimum salary or drawPractice AreasWe welcome candidates in: Immigration & Refugee Law Other complementary practice areasHow to Apply Summary of current or intended practice area Law Society membership detailsApplications are reviewed confidentially. #J-18808-Ljbffr
