Role: Team Lead, Data Engineering - DatabricksLocation: Downtown Toronto (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)Salary: $150,000 - $175,000Your New CompanyYoull be joining a global organization that delivers missioncritical data and technology solutions supporting complex financial and investment operations. Data engineering is a strategic priority, and the team is building a centralized, enterprisegrade data platform designed for scale, performance, and longterm growth.Your New RoleAs Team Lead, Data Engineering, youll step into a senior, handson leadership role within a Databrickscentric environment. While this role involves strong technical depth, it is not purely about writing code. Youll be responsible for designing scalable data architectures, guiding engineers in how solutions are built, and ensuring the platform meets enterprise standards for performance, security, and reliability.Youll collaborate closely with both technical and business stakeholders, act as a coach and technical sounding board for your team, and help shape how modern data engineering practices including AIassisted development are applied in daytoday work.What Youll Need to Succeed8+ years of experience in data engineering, including leadership or teamlead responsibilitiesStrong, handson experience with Databricks in a production, enterprise environmentProven proficiency (ideally 8+/10) in Python and PySpark, with experience:Optimizing queries and pipelinesUnderstanding shuffle mechanics and Spark background processesStrong SQL skills and solid data modeling experienceExperience designing and architecting scalable, infrastructuregrade data pipelinesCloud experience with AWS and/or Azure (S3, Glue, Lambda or equivalent services)Experience with Delta Lake, Lakehouse architecture, and modern ETL/ELT patternsFamiliarity with Unity Catalog, IAM concepts, and data governance best practicesExperience reviewing code, guiding implementation decisions, and supporting developersComfort working in Agile/Scrum environments and collaborating with business/LOB teamsA forwardthinking mindset, including practical use of AI tools to enhance productivity and development workflowsGaps in one technical area (for example PySpark) are acceptable if balanced by strong skills in SQL, Python, cloud engineering, or architectural leadership.What Youll Get in ReturnA leadership role focused on architecture, technical direction, and team growth, not just coding ticketsThe opportunity to influence a largescale Databricks platform at an enterprise levelA collaborative engineering culture that values clear thinking, confidence, and depth of explanationExposure to modern data tooling, realtime processing, and AIenabled development practicesCompetitive compensation, benefits, and longterm growth opportunities within a global organizationWhat You Need to Do NowIf youre a senior data engineer or technical lead ready to shape architecture, mentor teams, and drive modern data engineering practices forward, apply now or reach out for a confidential discussion.
