Herzing College in Toronto, Ontario is seeking a Career Development Specialist. The Career Development Specialist reports directly to the Director of Career Development.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Marketing functions:Network and build partnerships with employers via employer visits, cold calls, telephone, email, internet searches. Develop full time and part time employment leads for students/graduates. Perform job searches using internet, local newspapers, chambers of commerce and industry directories.Meet with employers and represent Herzing College at employment and internship sites, at Career Fairs, and other events, as assigned by the Director of Career Development.Provide employment services to employers and graduates.Prepare job orders, send out resumes and/or set up interviews and follow-up on job leads.Student/Graduate Services:Interview students regarding his/her background and assist them in preparing their resume highlighting their employable skillsAdvise students/graduates in locating appropriate employment markets and job search techniques they should applyAdvise students one-to-one on any specific employment barrier(s) they may be facingField incoming requests from students/graduatesMatch graduates with appropriate job ordersFollow-up with graduates progress in seeking employment Interact in a fair and impartial way with students/graduates and employersInternship:Network with employers to develop leads for internship sites. Meet with students in class to discuss internship policies. Follow-up with a one-on-one meeting with students to determine their interests and goals for internship. Review their resumes and background checks as necessary.Contact on-line students by email or phone to discuss internship policies etc.Field incoming requests from students and employers via email, telephone and in person regarding internship Match students to appropriate internship opportunities.Co-ordinate signing and completion of internship agreements between the College, the student and the employer.Monitor weekly attendance reports and resolve any issues regarding internship placements. Report any internship issues directly to the Director of Career Development.Visit students at internship sites and report on students progress with Director of Career Development and Instructional staff.Mark internship reports and evaluations and submit marks to Registrar.Teaching Job Search classes:Develop objectives, units of instruction and lesson plans for formal career development classes either in class or on-line.Co-ordinate schedules with Academic Dean for job search classesAssist the students in a group classroom setting in developing: skills and abilities; goals; image; preparing resumes/cover letters/portfolios; keys to successful job hunting; researching employers; cold calls; networking; handling interviews and follow-upInvite employers as guest speakers to reinforce job search techniques. Invite alumni to speak about employment in their fieldSet up mock interviews for studentsMark tests, resumes, cover letters, portfolios, mock interviews and submit marks to the RegistrarDepartmental Support:Filing, organizing or preparing graduate filesHelp maintain graduate employment and internship boards in the CollegeInvite guest speakers, set up employer interviewsAssist with career fairs/expos, employer appreciation events etc.Various projects; such as mass emails, employer databases, employer surveysAssist the Director of Career Development in completing the monthly career services activity report Maintain accurate graduate employment statistics.
