We are seeking a Legal Assistant to join our team at MEP Business Counsel (MEP). This is an integral role as a critical support for our lawyers for both practice management and transactional work. The position will support 2-3 of our Corporate Lawyers. About the Role (General Responsibilities) Practice Management File opening including collecting relevant information from client as needed (e.g., Know Your Client and Source of Money forms) File closing and archiving Expense reports Trust paperwork Mail forwarding Management of calendars, meeting schedules, contact lists, and bringforwards for a team of lawyers Answering and directing phone calls and inquiries by email Communicating directly with clients as needed Transactional Work Editing/formatting various correspondence, agreements, reports, forms, and spreadsheets Preparing trust paperwork for closings Coordinating the execution and collation of transaction documents Handling closing documents and preparing digital closing books Pulling searches from BC Online and LTSA Billing Preparing WIP reports, prebills, and bills including making edits and reviewing for accuracy and completeness Sending bills to clients and saving bills and correspondence to file Following up with clients on outstanding AR balances Preparing trust paperwork to pay invoices Other Support Ancillary support and time off coverage for other LAs Occasional shared coverage support for limited reception duties About You (Candidates Requisites) Experience as an LA in a similar law firm environment, ideally with focused experience in Business Law and experience with Real Estate and/or Employment Law is an asset Completed an accredited Legal Administrative Assistant program or similar Experience with legal applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Litera Compare, Cosmolex, iManage, BC Online, DocuSign, MyLTSA, Alf (considered a definite plus) Strong technical and formatting skills with excellent attention to detail Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize a busy workload Takes pride in high quality output and a high standard for client service Collaborative approach to working environment, a true team player who willingly steps up to help and asks for assistance when needed Dedicated and driven, holds a high standard of excellence for their work product Strong problem solving, time management, prioritization, and organizational skills Pleasant, positive, and professional demeanor Ability to take direction and work independently Excellent communication skills written and verbal Comfortable and keeps calm in a fast paced and high volume practice High degree of discretion and good judgement when handling confidential and sensitive matters What We Offer Salary range: $55,000$70,000 depending on years of experience, education, and qualifications Bonus program based on excellence in job performance and contributions to the firm, and a referral bonus program for employee referrals of new hires Extended health/vision/dental/paramedical coverage, life insurance, critical illness insurance, AD&D insurance, longterm disability coverage (health benefit coverage premiums 100% employer paid except LTDI) Generous Health Spending Account, fitness/wellness/transit reimbursement, and an RRSP and TFSA program with employer match Hybrid working environment with reasonable flexibility in working hours and a commitment to healthy worklife balance Opportunities for professional development and intentional skill growth Social events and teambased competition events throughout the year, including a summer family social To Apply If this role interests you, please send your resume and cover letter to .
