The Public Health Nurse carries out public health nursing activities under the supervision of the Public Health Nursing Supervisor. This employee works relatively independently and is expected to make primary decisions based on sound assessments according to accepted policies and procedures of the nursing program and the Saskatchewan Health Authority and SRNA Standards of practice. This employee will facilitate identifying needs of individuals, families, groups or communities and will assist in the development of programs/services, carry out immunization, assess client needs, make home visits, counsel and provide health promotion services. This employee liaises with, and refers to, other health personnel and agencies, as well as works closely with community groups. Home base for this position is: 1504 Albert St. Human Resources Exemption No Licenses Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS) Valid Class5 driver''s license Education Current registration with CRNS and current BCLS certification. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Course credits in community health and public health nursing are required Competencies Interpersonal skills Experience Minimum of one (1) year Public Health Nursing experience is an asset. Demonstrates knowledge of multiple health promotion strategies Health Promotion strategies include building healthy public policy High level of accuracy in immunization, and handling specialized equipment. Demonstrated knowledge in media communication and social marketing. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Ability to work collaboratively with team members and the community at large. Ability to demonstrate appropriate level of professional conduct and judgement. Ability to create a supportive environment Ability to exercise independent decision making in a community-based environment Knowledge of prevention used in promotion, prevention and protection of health. Ability to communicate with clients from diverse backgrounds Ability to be selfdirected Uses independent judgment based on Public Health principles.
