The Opportunity The Chief Operating Officer will be the steady hand inside the business. It is a role for a proven operator who knows how construction gets built, understands the realities of field execution, and can move a business towards clarity and consistency. The COO will lead the operational heartbeat of the organization, bringing practical technical knowledge, business acumen, and executive presence to the table. They will work closely with the CEO and executive team to strengthen leadership across divisions, improve resourcing and execution, and create greater consistency across a business that is scaling quickly and navigating complexity. This role is ideal for someone who is polished, credible, and highly respected by both field teams and the boardroom. They will know when to roll up their sleeves, when to challenge constructively, and when to lead the charge. Above all, they will be someone who does not stand back and point at problems. They will be someone who helps solve them. Key Responsibilities As the Chief Operating Officer, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for: 1. Operational Leadership & Stabilization Lead day-to-day operations across key construction divisions and support functions Stabilize a growing organization operating in the $100M range Create consistency in execution, planning, and resourcing across the business Bring structure, clarity, and accountability to an operation that has experienced rapid change and growth Help ensure PBN has the leadership, systems, and discipline required to execute work safely, profitably, and predictably 2. Leadership Across Divisions Provide leadership to senior operational leaders and divisional heads Ensure teams are properly resourced and supported, avoiding burnout and overwork Build business cases for talent, infrastructure, and operational decisions that strengthen retention and performance Foster a culture where leaders bring solutions, not just problems 3. Business Acumen & Growth Execution Work with the CEO, CFO, and leadership team to align operations with financial goals and business priorities Understand where the work is, what should be pursued, and how divisions can execute profitably Support business development efforts by identifying operational capacity, market opportunities, and execution risks Ensure strong alignment between resourcing decisions, operational performance, and financial outcomes Bring practical judgment to decision-making, balancing urgency with long-term stability 4. Executive Presence & Organizational Influence Serve as a key voice at the executive table, contributing thoughtful, grounded, and forward-moving leadership Represent PBN professionally in meetings with senior stakeholders, community leaders, clients, and partners Help build confidence internally by leading with steadiness, credibility, and presence Collaborate effectively with a seasoned leadership team and contribute to strategic decision-making Qualifications As the Chief Operating Officer, you will possess the following qualities: 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in construction, heavy civil, industrial, or related sectors Engineering background considered a strong asset, though equivalent depth of practical industry experience will also be considered Strong technical and practical understanding of how construction work is executed in the field Demonstrated success leading complex operations through growth, change, or stabilization Proven ability to lead senior teams, strengthen accountability, and improve operational consistency Strong business acumen with the ability to align operational decisions to financial performance Experience working closely with executive teams, boards, or ownership groups Attributes & Mindset: Polished, credible, and confident in senior-level settings Practical and technically grounded Calm under pressure and able to lead through ambiguity Strong communicator who can collaborate without ego Respectful, decisive, and action-oriented Comfortable stepping into complexity and bringing order to it Someone who leads the charge rather than waiting on the sidelines What Our Client Offers Competitive Total Compensation A strong base salary complemented by a management-level profit-sharing bonus program tied to company performance.
