About the Position The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for performing analysis in various matrices in the AG Soils section using discrete analyzers, flow injection or ICP instrumentation. This position will also perform routine functions such as sample preparation and lab maintenance. The Laboratory Analyst will follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and adhere to strict QA/QC requirements, to ensure clients receive efficient service and quality results. Specific Responsibilities Prepare samples, reagents, standards, and reference materials for analysis; Prepare applicable instrumentation; Analyze samples of different matrices using laboratory instrumentation to generate accurate results for clients; Interpret data, conduct calculations and transfer data into electronic data collection software; Evaluate data and troubleshoot problems with the data/extraction/instrumentation; Perform instrument/equipment calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and/or repairs as required; Organize workload to meet Turn Around Times (TATs); Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Good English communication skills (auditory, verbal, written, and reading) as required; Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) on a basic level; Basic computer skills; Accurate and efficient data entry skills; Capability to perform repetitive tasks correctly in a fast-paced environment; Good organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines such as Turnaround Times (TAT) and holding time requirements; Analytical and process oriented skills with the ability to critically think in ambiguous situations; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; A strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required; Required Qualifications B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry or a related discipline (required); 2-3 years experience in an analytical laboratory or related field experience (asset); Physical Demands Ability to lift up to 30 lbs./14 kg (25 litre containers) regularly and carry for short distances; Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required; Ability to stand for a full shift; Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities; You may be exposed to unpleasant odours; Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
