Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic, organized, and relationship-driven Director of Programming and Volunteer Engagement to elevate our programming and events. This role blends creativity with operational excellencedesigning programs that inspire and cultivate a volunteer culture that strengthens our communal fabric. This position works closely with the Rabbis, Youth Director, and other members of the team to identify, develop and implement a full suite of programs and events. The ideal candidate is warm, proactive, detail-oriented, and deeply attuned to the values and rhythms of Orthodox Jewish life. Key Responsibilities Program Development & Execution Design, plan, and implement high quality programs for all ages and demographics (adults, families and seniors). Develop a year round programming calendar aligned with the synagogues mission, Jewish holidays, and community needs. Collaborate with clergy, staff, and lay leaders to create spiritually enriching, educational, and social experiences. Manage logistics for events, including registration, marketing, vendors, catering, and on site coordination. Evaluate program success and community feedback to refine future offerings. Volunteer Engagement & Leadership Development Build and maintain a robust volunteer pipeline to provide input and guidance on new and existing program initiatives. Recruit, train, and support volunteers for all events, committees, chesed initiatives, and holiday activities. Develop leadership opportunities for members to take ownership of community initiatives. Create systems for volunteer recognition, appreciation, and retention. Community Building & Member Engagement Serve as a welcoming, visible presence at synagogue events and Shabbat programs. Foster relationships with members to understand interests, talents, and engagement opportunities. Support new member integration through targeted programming and personal outreach. Partner with the Rabbi and Executive Director to strengthen community culture and connection. Administration & Communications Manage logistics related to our in a box programming. Oversee program budgets, timelines, and reporting. Work with communications staff to promote programs through email, social media, print materials, and announcements. Maintain accurate volunteer records and program data. Ensure all programming aligns with halachic standards and the synagogues Orthodox values. Qualifications Required Strong understanding of Jewish practice, culture, and community life. Experience in program planning, community engagement, or nonprofit management. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work evenings, Shabbatot, and Jewish holidays as needed. Warm, approachable, and enthusiastic about building community. Preferred Background in program planning, volunteer management or Jewish education. Familiarity with management software and event planning tools. Experience or a recognized credential in one of the following: human services, nonprofit management, Jewish studies, communications, etc).
