Practice Leadership and Strategic Growth Serve as the technical and strategic lead for mine water management across Atlantic Canada, helping define service offerings, technical focus areas, and growth priorities Shape how Stantec approaches surface water management, mine water balances, and integrated water systems in highprecipitation and coldclimate environments Partner with leadership to support strategic pursuits, key client relationships, and longterm practice growth Contribute to the development of technical standards, guidance documents, and best practices that elevate consistency, quality, and innovation across the business Act as a visible technical ambassador for Stantec through industry involvement, presentations, and thought leadership Technical Authority and Project Influence Provide senior technical leadership for mine water management across all project phases: environmental assessment, permitting, feasibility and detailed design, operations support and optimization, closure and postclosure water management Lead and review sitewide water balances, surface water diversion systems, contact water management strategies, and adaptive management frameworks Act as a senior advisor on ARD/ML prediction, mitigation, and longterm water quality management Serve as Technical Lead, Discipline Lead, Subject Matter Expert, or Senior Reviewer on complex and highprofile mining projects Support clients in navigating provincial and federal regulatory requirements with clear, defensible, and practical water management strategies Mentorship: Core Part of the Role Actively mentor intermediate and senior mine water professionals, supporting both technical depth and professional confidence Coach emerging practitioners in surface water fundamentals, integrated mine water thinking, and practical decisionmaking Foster a culture of knowledge sharing, technical curiosity, and continuous improvement Support succession planning by helping identify, develop, and prepare future technical leaders Provide informal and formal guidance through project work, technical reviews, and oneonone mentorship relationships Help create an environment where earlycareer professionals are challenged, supported, and inspired to stay and grow Your Key Responsibilities Provide technical leadership in mine water management for mining projects throughout Atlantic Canada Lead development and review of integrated water balance models tailored to maritime climatic conditions Oversee design and evaluation of water management infrastructure including diversions, ponds, pumping systems, and treatment facilities Support clients in meeting provincial and federal regulatory requirements, including watercourse alteration permits, industrial approvals, and environmental assessment commitments Provide expertise in ARD/ML prediction, prevention, and management strategies Support operational mines with compliance strategies, adaptive management, and water performance optimization Identify and support strategic mining pursuits in collaboration with regional Business Leaders and Account Managers Strengthen Stantecs presence in Atlantic Canada through industry engagement, technical presentations, and client relationship development Mentor and develop mine water professionals within the region Contribute to technical standards, best practice guides, and innovation in mine water modeling and treatment technologies Participate in key project delivery as Technical Lead, Discipline Lead, Subject Matter Expert, or Quality Reviewer Support resource planning and workload balancing within the regional team Promote a strong health and safety culture, particularly for remote and seasonal field programs Your Capabilities and Credentials Strong understanding of mine water management challenges specific to Atlantic Canada Experience with ARD/ML assessment and mitigation in base metal, precious metal, and critical mineral projects Demonstrated experience developing and managing mine water balances in maritime and winter climates Knowledge of provincial regulatory frameworks in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador Experience with mine water treatment technologies is considered an asset Proven leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams Strong project management skills including budgeting, proposal writing, scheduling, and client engagement Excellent written and verbal communication skills Education and Experience Minimum M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences (Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences) or Engineering (Civil, Environmental, or related discipline). Professional registration (P.Geo. or P.Eng.) in an Atlantic Canadian province is required (or eligibility for registration). Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in mine water management, including consulting and/or operational mining experience. Demonstrated experience leading mine water management components of environmental assessments, feasibility studies, operational support, and closure projects. The Work Environment This position involves leading from the office while also offering chances to travel for business development and visits to mine sites throughout Atlantic Canada. If interested, there are also opportunities to travel to northern communities and mine sites elsewhere in Canada. Pay Transparency Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for parttime roles will be prorated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
