About Us Nova Scotias natural landscapes demand a special kind of pilot. The Department of Natural Resources manages the provinces forests, parks, wildlife, and Crown landsbut its our Aviation Services team that brings these missions to life from the air. Position Overview This is a new training pilot position that combines operational flying with instructor responsibilities. The selected candidate will be an active line pilot, supporting a wide variety of missions, and will design and deliver an internal training and monitoring program for DNR pilots. Primary Accountabilities Retain an active flight status on the schedule while flying H125 helicopters on missioncritical provincial operations. Design and create a training and mentorship program for DNR Aviation Services, ranging from new pilots and engineers to highly experienced staff. Maintain, organise and present the approved training programme for flight crews, ensuring compliance with internal, regulatory and industry standards. Present training materials to DNR Wildfire, Ground Search & Rescue and Law Enforcement teams. In consultation with the Chief Pilot, establish and update standard operating procedures. Provide helicopter support to all provincial government departments and agencies for wildfire suppression, search and rescue, public safety, law enforcement, aerial reconnaissance, and natural resource protection. Establish and monitor standards and pilot techniques to ensure crew compliance with flight operations. Maintain accurate training records for pilots and provide them to Transport Canada upon request. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience Valid Transport Canada CPL (H). Class3 flight instructor rating or equivalent experience. 3000 flight hours as a pilotincommand in rotarywing aircraft. Valid Category1 medical certificate. Recent experience in external load, wildfire suppression, cargo slinging, and remote/unprepared landing operations. Familiarity with CARs and safe bush operating practices. Strong presentation skills for special projects. Nova Scotia Class5 drivers licence or equivalent. Preferred Assets Time and/or endorsement on Airbus AS350 / H-125. Current PPC on AS350B3E. Precision longline and external load experience. CRM / PDM course completions. Knowledge of EO/IR camera systems, aerial surveillance, and flighttracking software. Public outreach and community engagement experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and iOS apps for communication and presentations. Experience in emergency management and aerial coordination. Equivalency An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Applicants relying on equivalencies must demonstrate them in their application. Travel and deployments of up to 7days within the province may occur during peak fire season.
