Job Description

The Transportation Services Division is seeking a Senior Data Analyst & Integrator to join the Data & Analytics Unit. The role sits within the Data Operations team and focuses on building and maintaining the digital infrastructure for transportation data, including ETL processes, data quality evaluation, spatial data handling, and the development of selfserve tools and visualization products. Major Responsibilities Develop and maintain Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes for large transportation datasets from structured and unstructured sources such as GPSprobe data, sensor data, traffic collision data, and emerging mobility providers. Evaluate data quality and automate anomaly detection, filtering, and reporting. Provision data infrastructure in collaboration with Technology Services to ensure reliable operations and automated data flow to city partners, including Open Data. Manage codebases for data pipelines using git and GitHub. Lead the development of selfserve tools for the Division to access transformed data and data products. Process, clean, and manage spatial data using PostgreSQL/PostGIS and GIS for analysis and web mapping applications. Prepare data requests for internal and external requestors in collaboration with other technical staff. Researching the State of the Art of Transportation Data Conduct research on transportation, traffic, big data, analytics, machine learning, data visualization, and smart cities to identify best practices. Identify and monitor emerging transportation data sources relevant to Division projects and programs. Stay current on emerging techniques and technologies in big data, data science, and data visualization. Research best practices from academia and other municipalities, and prepare briefing notes, presentations, and technical documentation. Maintain an electronic library of applicable research, data, statistics, books, periodicals, and reference material. Plan, evaluate, and conduct pilot studies to assess new analytics and data management technologies and methods. Communication Prepare technical documentation on queries, routines, and processes to facilitate knowledge transfer and consistent practices. Produce abstracts, reports, technical memos, and presentations. Summarize findings with static and interactive visualizations, including maps, tables, graphs, charts, and diagrams. Attend meetings, prepare stakeholder presentations on transportation statistics, and network with other departments, government levels, consultants, contractors, and vendors to determine best solutions. Liaise with public inquiries and external agencies such as Toronto Police Service. Assist in procuring services and goods, including drafting Requests for Proposals/Quotations and evaluating bids. Write reports, including budget preparation and expense tracking. Key Qualifications Postsecondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, Transportation, or related sciences with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A postgraduate degree is an asset. Considerable experience with databases and data warehousing, including organization, compilation, manipulation, and analysis of large datasets. Strong coding skills in Python, R, or equivalent tools for automating data pipelines, developing ETL processes, or performing repeatable analyses. You must also have: Knowledge of urban planning, traffic engineering, and/or transportation planning. Experience with GIS, spatial analysis, spatial databases, cartography, and mapping. Knowledge of interactive data visualization, mapping, web development, data product, and dashboard development. Knowledge of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) ecosystems. Knowledge of DevOps tools, CI/CD, and Docker containerization. Knowledge of automated tests and TestDriven Development (TDD). Knowledge of predictive analytics and machine learning. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present research and analysis findings effectively. Strong analytical, problemsolving, and organizational skills; ability to take initiative, multitask, work under time constraints, and exercise judgment. Ability to provide excellent customer service and liaise with the public and partners. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
