Our team includes worldclass experts and dynamic gogetters. This is a fulltime position based in either Markham, Ontario; Oakville, Ontario; Vancouver, BC or Calgary, Alberta. Responsibilities Lead and manage contracting department team members (contracts formation and contracts administration). Guide contracting strategy throughout the FS / FEL3 Phase. Formulate and execute contracting strategies across: Earthworks & Civil Tunnelling (declines, underground access) Process Plant (Mechanical & SMP) Electrical & Power Infrastructure Tailings & Water Management Logistics & Camp Service Define optimal packaging approaches: Vertical vs horizontal packaging Strategies to minimize interfaces Riskbased segmentation of scopes Advice on contract models: Unit rate Lump sum Target price Develop contracting quilt and packaging register detailing: Interface ownership FID gates Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) Change Management Communicate with client and project team to secure approvals in accordance with established procedures. Interact with engineering and construction departments to comply with terms, revisions and amendments. Close out: Participate in contract termination, claims or dispute settlements according to delegated authority, conducting closeout review and processing back changes. Commercial & Contract Development Oversee preparation of all contract documentation, including: Instructions to bidders (ITB) General & Special Conditions Scope of Work (aligned with engineering maturity) Pricing structures and bid forms Establish standardized commercial positions, such as: Payment mechanisms (unit rate / milestone / progressbased) Rules of credit (progress measurement systems) Security requirements (bonding, guarantees) Clarify OEM and contractor commercial boundaries: Risk caps and liability structures Interface responsibilities Procurement & Award Governance Oversee full tendering lifecycle. Bid strategy approval and bidder list development. Bidder engagement and clarification processes. Commercial evaluations and normalization. Chair Commercial Evaluation Committees. Ensure auditability, fairness and transparency, and compliance with EPCM agent responsibilities. Lead contract award recommendations and oversee contract execution. PostFID Contract Execution & Management Establish and direct Contracts Management function, supervising: Contracts Administrators Claims specialists Coordination with procurement, construction, and project controls Implement contract management systems and procedures covering: Change control Payment certification Correspondence management Claims tracking Ensure integration with construction execution teams and procurement. Develop and implement proactive claims avoidance strategies, including: Early identification of risk triggers Commercial risk workshops with contractors Realtime issue resolution frameworks Claims evaluation and negotiation Dispute avoidance boards (where applicable) Ensure robust change management. Communicate with client to secure approvals in accordance with established procedures. Interact with engineering and construction departments to comply with terms, revisions and amendments. Close out: Lead contracts closeout or termination, claims or dispute settlements according to delegated authority, conducting closeout review and processing back changes. Integrate Indigenous participation requirements into contracting strategies: Implement mandatory commitments Joint venture or subcontracting expectations Weighted bid evaluations Align contracts with Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs) Local procurement commitments Track compliance throughout contract execution Maintain the contractual risk register, addressing: Contractor performance risks Commercial exposure Supply chain and logistics risks Allocate risk in accordance with market capacity realities, contracting assumptions and strong commercial foundations What you will bring 1520+ years experience in contracts and commercial management. Significant experience with major mining projects (> $1B capex). Proven EPCM experience (Ownerside or EPCM contractor). Comprehensive knowledge of: Unit rate and lump sum contracting in mining. Tunnelling and underground contract structures. Process plant construction contracts. Strong understanding of: Canadian construction law and OH&S obligation. Indigenous procurement frameworks. Experience in: Remote, logistically complex projects. Multicontract execution environments (25+ packages). Advanced field systems, processes, and tools. Education Qualifications, Accreditation, Training Required: BA/BS degree in related field or applicable discipline, or equivalent or relevant experience. Technical & Professional Competencies Proven ability to independently manage complex contractual scopes with limited supervision. Strong understanding of commercial risk, change management, claims, and contract closeout processes. Ability to interpret and apply contractual terms, policies, and procedures to realworld execution challenges. Broad knowledge of construction and services contracting within mining and heavy industrial environments. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present commercial issues, recommendations, and summaries to project and client stakeholders. Effective negotiator with the ability to influence outcomes while maintaining positive working relationships. Collaborative, teamoriented approach with a strong customer service mindset. Experience working in multicultural and, where applicable, multinational project environments. Commitment to Zero Harm and ethical business conduct. For applicants based in the province of Ontario, the salary range is $140K to $160K CAD. For applicants based in the province of BC, the salary range is $144K to $170K CAD.
